Title: Blinds and deer, do they fall for it?
Post by: cowboycraig on July 15, 2015, 08:02:18 PM: Where I am hunting don't have a lot of cover, and don't like stands in trees. The blinds that are kind of like tents, you know what I mean, do deer fall for these?

Was going to put it out and add extra cammo with brush etc.

Have never tried this.

Post by: PA BEN on July 15, 2015, 08:47:36 PM: Yes they work great. Remember when you set them up leave the windows you plan to shoot out of open, so the deer get use to the black hole. If you open it when you hunt the deer will notice it.

Post by: Smoke on July 16, 2015, 02:15:10 PM: put em out a few days ahead of time and let the deer get used to em being there, they work great.... put em out and hunt em the same day, the deer notice the difference and they get skittish...

Dark clothing inside is better than camo in many cases. Get one as big as you can especially if you are bow hunting then practice shooting from it. Last deer I took with my bow was from a blind.

Rifle. Planning on Bow next year also, just didn't get that together for 2015 season.

Post by: h20hunter on July 16, 2015, 03:06:31 PM: Take that into account....you need a good amount of room to draw that bow. Get a nice big blind so you are good for both.

I also like to try and rub mine down with branches and then lean some branches against it to help mask my smell. Final thing is to try and wear black if you can. Oh and like a lot of stand hunting, be prepared to doze off here and there. :tup:

Usually I sit on a fence line above a canyon for a few hours in the morning, when the deer are moving around. Once things slow down I hike mid canyon and start pushing through each canyon. All deer either hold until they cannot hold anymore (easy shot), or they kick out and almost always stop and turn broadside to see if you are continuing pursuit.

I always thought blinds should be used in a alfalfa field in the evening hours, to ambush deer when they come out to feed. Or use them during archery season to help present a shot at closer range. I suppose if you are hunting 100% wide open country with no ditches, draws, canyons, sage brush, etc.; then perhaps a blind may be helpful. I would rather push canyons and depend on my skill with a rifle to kill a deer at longer range. 2 cents

I am pretty bad about getting it out there early and brushing it in deep though.

Getting my blind out early and will be sure to have a cam on it after hearing that!

If a bear tears up the blind at least I get some bad-ass picks out of it :)
