It's been a good year so far. 6 keepers in this pot - 2 hour soak - kept 5 and threw back one that was missing a claw and 2 legs. Dumped the 2nd pot and it looked just as good.
-
looks like you are killin it, well done!
-
Nice job. Bro in law is going out tomorrow to soak a few then back out Saturday am.

Nice! Out going tide?
-
Yep, out-going
-
I'm not sure what I am doing wrong with my square pot, but it never crabs well. All my other pots are typically full.
-
nice haul what MA you find them
-
Congrats! I set out 2 pots and let them soak for 3 hours. Buddy and I limited with the first pot and had to throw out a few keepers. Checked second pot and it had even more crab. Threw them back, but I'll be after them tomorrow. We each reached our clam limit in less than 45 minutes. Today was a very successful day at the beach. If only I can be as lucky during hunting season.

What clams are open in the sound right now?

My $20 square pots always seem to out produce my $150 stainless round pots. This one is about rusted out after only 10 – 15 or so seasons. I keep thinking I should retire it but it keeps producing crabs.

Camano Island has some good spots that are usually open all year.

Funny that always seems to be the case; there is one pot that always out performs the rest. I have a couple crawdad pots that are the same way, garage sale finds. We built some fancy pots and the $5 garage salers always out produce.

Nice Catch!

Bro in law is out right now.....took his dad out on MY boat using MY (our really) gear and sending me pics of pond water and 7 inch crab! They have done one soak, about 35 minutes, 4 pots, nine keepers with at least one over 7 inches.
-
Got another report from the BIL. 2nd soak they are up to 14 legal....culled out the 4 smallest and have a 2 man limit in just over an hour total soak time, 4 pots. Chicken qtrs and rockfish carcass for bait.

That's good crabbing
Any salmon caught?
-
Nope...he just wanted to take his dad out for a daytime crabbing and goofing off kind cruise. Time with pops you know.
-
Sounds like a perfect day on the water with the old man
-
Yep....same string you and I were laying out.....I should have a pic soon of a full tote of crabs to post up.
-
Here we go....some nice looking crab.
-

Whidbey Island is open, which is where I am at. We dropped 2 pots this morning for a quick 30 minute soak before my buddy and his wife left and got 7 keepers.

crabbing has been really good this year. its not worth leaving your pots soak for more than an hour because doesn't seem like any more crab can get in. the bad news is we don't have anything to blame the Indians for right now

1 hour soak is the same as a 5 hour soak it seems. Gotta appreciate years like this.

Oh, and I got checked by gamies at the Camano State Park Launch today. First time in my life.
He said we had the biggest average crab size of anyone he has checked.
-
Just a bump for those that are planning on getting out and crabbing. Still easy limits and I'd say bigger than average sized crabs. Fished out of Everett this weekend and had a few over 7. I've been using just plain old chicken and rockfish carcasses (westport trip).

Quick question is it legal to soak pots overnight?

Quick question is it legal to soak pots overnight?
Yes, you just can't check them until an hour before sunrise.

Of course :) :chuckle:

I've decided to steal the old mans boat for the rest of the season. First outing will either be Saturday evening then soak over night or just head out on Sunday. I usually go out of the Mukilteo light house boat launch, but now that they are charging I'm considering changing it up and going out of Everett. How long of a run is it from the launch to where people are crabbing? Ill only be in a 12' smoker craft with a 25hp motor on it so I dont want anything to crazy.

Sure there is. No Chinook season in MA10 was all because of the Mucks.

A lot of people crab right outside of the river mouth. Or even off the Navy dock in the river.
