We just got back home recently from Wisconsin. This year I fished 5 days and had a great time. My ultimate goal is to catch a musky "the fish of 10,000 casts" even though I must be nearing half that many casts in WI waters over several years of trying I still haven't caught a musky, but this year I admit we focused mostly on panfish so I did't give the musky a fair chance this time. Maybe next trip! :chuckle:
Fishing was good, we mostly fished mornings and out again in the afternoons, one time I fished at midnight and that was good too, most days I limited or came close to it. 25 panfish per day which were mostly bluegill, crappie, and perch plus some additional walleye and bass, it was a great time and boy did we have some good eating. :EAT: :cue:
We watched fireworks, saw an airshow with the blue angels (those jets are amazing), attended a family reunion, played some poker, visited the local Indian casino, and I helped a sister in law with some home repairs and built a new basement stairwell and stairs, we brought home some Wisconsin cheese and sausage, and I wrapped up a deal on another outfitting business that we just purchased, so it was a multi-purpose trip. :chuckle:
Here are a few photos:

Man I love fried panfish fillets more than any other fish.
Pretty humid back there this time of year huh? :chuckle:

Normally it's a sauna, this year we had awesome weather, very comfortable, best weather I've ever seen in WI, I was teasing my son every time we talked on the phone because it was over 100 at our place here in WA that he was watching for us. Our timing was perfect, we left just before it got hot and the temps dropped just before we got home. :chuckle:

Love those bluegills real tasty.

Montana was in the mid 70's while I was there all last week... GORGEOUS down on the Ruby south of Alder, and up west of Wilsall in the Crazies, was the whole Midwest experiencing nice weather for once?

We spent the week in Minnesota and joked that it was unheard of to go there to cool down in July. Perfect weather, no bugs, gorgeous.

Wisconsin, and Minnesota are all about black crappie and bluegills! Looks like you had a great time!

How far south were you? Was just down there 26-30th of June fishing on the Ruby at Upper Canyon Outfitters. There place is right next to Ted Turners Ranch 24 miles south of Alder.

One of the few things I miss about WI, crappie and more crappie. My parents live on Lake Wisconsin so we always try to get some fishing in when back there. Some great hybrid white bass fishing on their lake as well.
My grandparents had a cabin in the Lac du Flambeau area and their were musky in the chain of lakes they were on. I remember being up there when I was about 15 and deciding to target the muskies. I actually caught three that day, all were 26 inches and the minimum back then was already 30", it was still a great day fishing.

Right up Barton Gulch then down on Idaho Creek. Friend of mine has 50 Acres in there, his family owns a TON of land in the area. We were in the same area. Turner and Letterman both have property that borders the ranch I am referring too. I am purposely withholding their names as I don't think they want it advertised. The land has been in the Family for 3/4 generations.
MODIFIED TO CLARIFY THAT THE 50 ACRE PARCEL IS NOT THE TON OF LAND I WAS REFERRING TOO

I'm an Army brat and was born in Wisconsin. All my family lives in Jackson and Trempealeau county. Love the deer hunting, the walleye, pan fish, and yes the northern and musky fishing. Caught one legal musky in Lake Arbutus back waters and one in Hayward..... About 40 years ago.. 40 year class reunion this summer, I wonder if I should go.. It would be my first. :dunno:
Love this state sooo much more...

We fished Hayward last year, my in-law caught a musky and had another on but I didn't catch any then either. :chuckle:
