Hello All. Just out of curiosity how heavy is your hunting setup? Rifle,scope and sling. I have a Weatherby 7mm with a Nikon scope that drives tacks but I am not digging 13.8lbs. Am I just being a puss puss or it this on the heavy side? :dunno:
I'm assuming you are running a aftermarket barrel?
A bit more weight from a rifle that you are comfortable with shooting is better than a light weight rifle that has poor groups. 13+# seems a bit excessive for hunting though. :twocents:

6.7# with scope is pretty light! But I'd guess with that rifle we are talking relative terms in regards to poor groups. My lightweight rifles still group better than most Off The Shelf varmint rifles. The Kimber Montana is my second best grouping gun I own...off the bench ;) ;) Though I do not yet own an RBros :(
To the OP's question: Yes, I would consider that on the heavy side if you are not a stand hunter. But I don't like shooting at animals more than 400 yards away either. So :dunno:

Current rifle....the go to rifle is right at 8.5 lbs.
My weights are based on manufactures listed weights.....I did not weigh them.

Jackelope nailed it. It's heavy but when it hits the pack something is going to die. I will quit my crying now. You guys are right though it is too heavy to be humping all over so I really have no choice but to buy the Kimber mountain ascent that I have been drooling over. Just have to decide .270 or 30-06 :IBCOOL:
I'd probably buy something in a short action if I was looking for an ultralight mountain rifle. Might also look at the Forbes or the NULA's offerings if you're going to spend that kind of $$...unless you just want a rifle in Optifade camo.

I'm wondering why your gun is so heavy? You must have some custom mods or extras?

These are coming in at just over 7lb with optic.:tup: Gotta love a good grendel.. Those CZ527 builds are getting pretty popular, I am still on the fence about building one.
CZ527 converted to 6.5 Grendel.
But I have this Grendel so probably will not. I changed out the buttstock that is pictured and dropped .5 so she is now sitting at 9.5#

Kimber? That is just shy of what mine weighs trail ready.
I feel 8lbs is a good target for an average light gun. Most of mine weight from a light 7lb Kimber .325 WSM up to my .450 Ackley Mag that goes a bit more than 12lbs. Probably all together my go to guns average about 9lbs trail ready.

You know when it isnt shooting like it did so you order a new scope and start taking it off and find a loose base screw :bash:
It's surprising how many hunters would show up for a hunt and not be able to consistently hit targets at our range. Then find out their bases were loose.
My A7 270WSM had a rail I just could not get to tighten up. Chased with a tap, used loc-tite and still would work loose. Think the aluminum rail was just too soft. Finally swapped out the Sako rail for an A-Bolt Leupold base and never had an issue again.

Had a client show up for a $10,000 goat hunt and while sighting in their stock Browning .270 WSM with older Leupold 2-7 Vari-X 2 the adjustment mechanism fell out of the gun while they were trying to sight it in! Then wanted to just put it back in place, screw down the turret cover and go hunt : :yike:, outfitter put the screws on that bad idea.

That's awesome!
For me it's less about weight than it is balance. My 375 Ruger is 9.5# ready to hunt but it balances perfectly. I've had long barreled guns that weigh 9# but just didn't balance well and they felt heavier. The little CZ 527 that Grizz Precision built is just about perfect. It weighs 7# but feels like less when it's in your hands. I carried it for 7 miles while scouting for bear and looking for coyotes yesterday and it never became a nuisance. Super light rifles are a dream to carry but aren't my favorite when it comes to snap shooting like I typically do when hunting. :twocents:
