Title: Elk Cam Check
Post by: Band on August 03, 2015, 03:15:06 PM
Got a chance to hit the woods with MADMAX on Saturday and checked my cams.  The one in the location I was excited about was stolen by some D-bag who is keeping me up at night trying to figure out what I'm going to do to the guy if I ever catch him. >:(

Here are a few pics from the other cam.  This herd has a good crop of calves.  Decent Bull.  "Trophy" Spike

Isn't it sad when you get more excited over seeing a spike on your cam versus seeing a good bull? Nice pics btw. Love seeing all the calves. I have been getting tons of calves on my cameras too!

I'm always really concerned about cams being stolen.  I try to put them up high as often as i can on public land.  Sorry to hear yours got stolen but nice pics.

You know the DB is going to return put some more cams out this time higher in the tree.

I strongly suspect an ATV rider in this particular case, who may or may not be a hunter.  The camera was located on a major game trail where a blowdown crossed the trail and when I returned to the camera the blowdown had been cut away with a chainsaw and there were ATV tracks along the trail.  I'm thinking when they stopped to cut the log they had time to look around and discover the camera, which was not particular well hidden.  If I get really lucky and find out who stole it, well, I'll make sure he pays for it in spades!  Call me crazy, but when I see a game cam I don't consider stealing it.  I hate criminals with a passion!! :bash:

If my other camera survives theft through archery season I'll look into getting one of those screw-in swivel contraptions and mounting it higher on the tree.

Unless you plan on never hunting that area again, I wouldn't steal a game cam or anything.

Reminds me of an incident during bow season.  Me and my buddy were at the trucks and ran into another guy hunting the area.  We made small talk and he started whining about some tree stands set up over a salt lick down in the canyon.  He said he was going to climb up there and take them down.    Little did he know they were ours and there was no salt lick, it was a dried up wallow.  We have never put salt in the area.  You cant in Idaho.  He said he had been hunting the area for years and that pissed him off.  I didn't want to let him know where we hunt, because there were some good bulls down there and he thought the area was a ghost town so I snapped a picture of his truck so that if the stands were gone, Id know who to make a visit too.  We pulled them down after season, but part of me was hoping to meet him walking out with them one day, so I could thank him for doing all that work for us!
