Title: Multiseason Extra Tags - GAMETIME August 10th at Noon
Post by: luvmystang67 on August 05, 2015, 09:07:09 AM
Okay, its internet game time on August 10th.  Who will beat me to the 180 multiseason elk and 3,300 multiseason deer tags remaining at noon on the 10th?  I bet NOBODY.

WDFW WILDLIFE PROGRAM
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife
600 Capitol Way North, Olympia, WA 98501-1091
wildthing@dfw.wa.gov

Dear Multi-season applicants:

As you may know, the exclusive opportunity for hunters who were successfully drawn in April to purchase a Multi-Season Tag has ended.

Beginning, Aug. 10, 2015, at 12 p.m., those hunters who were selected but have not purchased a tag AND those who were not selected but purchased an application will be eligible to purchase a Multi-Season Tag on a first-come, first-served basis.

All hunters MUST purchase their tag at a local license dealer, where they will be required to surrender (at that time) their general season tag for a Multi-Season Tag.
In summary:

Who is eligible:  Anyone who applied for the multi-season permit.  (If you applied for deer, then you are eligible for deer.  If you applied for elk, you are eligible for elk.) If you were drawn originally, you are still eligible, but you will not have exclusive rights to purchase your permit.
When can they be purchased:  Beginning August 10 at 12:00 PM.
How many permits are available: As of today, we have approximately 180 elk permits left (out of 1,000) and approximately 3,300 deer permits left (out of 8,500).
Will people who purchase “over-the-counter” lose their multi-season permit drawing points?:  No.  The people who applied, but were not drawn will not lose their drawing points.  The drawing (and thus the loss of points) provided hunters a guaranteed opportunity to purchase the multi-season tag and provided them opportunity to apply for special hunts in all weapon types.  Over-the-counter purchasers did not get these benefits.

Thank you for your patience as we work through our new process. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our Customer Service Center at 360-902-2464.

I don't think its internet game time since you have to buy it at a local dealer. And wouldn't midnight be 12AM?

Lol, it was going to get posted anyway.  I mean everyone who applied got the e-mail and if you didn't apply then you aren't eligible, so really no harm done.'

Now, who is taking Monday off from work (and away from bear hunting) to sit in line while the clueless people at Fred Meyer crash the WDFW system?

Got to strategize to find the store with the best internet connection and fewest hunters.  I wonder if anyone does license sales on Cap Hill?

I don't see them being able to sell all 3,300 deer tags. I'm hoping they open the deer tags up for everyone after a few days. I did not put in for multi season deer but would buy if given the chance. I did however put in for elk but don't see myself having the time this year to do that tag justice. and by that I mean that I did not draw mult-season elk but am not planning on purchasing a surplus tag due to not having time for the hunts.

I don't see them opening it up after a few days to the people that didn't pay for an application. If anything, this shows that Multi-season deer permits should just go OTC from the get go...

Not sure that logic really works...  There are not left over tags because of lack of demand based on what we have seen.  If there were lack of demand all of us that are so excited about left over right now would not be as we would have been drawn.  Now most are gaga over the Elk, but some of us are for deer too.  Polls here and on FB were showing close to 50% of people that applied for MS Deer were NOT drawn this year.  That means probably in excess of 16000 applications went in for MS Deer.  Somehow the number of people applying for deer this year skyrocketed, OR WDFW somehow screwed up the draw to begin with.....?

What will be interesting will be to see how many left over tags are gone after those of us that applied and were not drawn get our chance to buy starting Monday.  If there are still 1000 tags after that then yeah might make sense to go OTC and I would say WDFW should throw the remainders OTC in a few weeks.

What is curious is that 3300 people drawn to not purchase seems more than a bit odd, that is like 38% failed to buy after they applied and were drawn..?

I don't think it's near 50% of the applicants were not drawn. Maybe near 50% of the people that responded to the polls, but that is not the actual % of not drawn.

I'm glad I didn't draw the tag this year.  The way things are going it'll still be in the mid 80's in September.

Ehh it works to make the point, and it is/was a fair sampling from two sources showing similar results to an unbiased question.  Liberals can skew numbers from a single report to lie in elections to pass anti gun laws, I am at least using raw data form a simple question not cooked numbers..

Fact is there was a significant drop in % of people drawn this year compared to previous years where the tag has been all but a "gimmee"..

This situation is nonsense and a good reason why if you put in for multi season you should have to pay up front for the tags and if you don't draw you get your money bad or secondly have another drawing that you have to buy these tags that are leftover up frontbut this whole black Friday sale *censored* is chaos and unprofessional the way I see it

I wouldn't say I "failed" to buy the MS deer tag after drawing... I put in for MS deer to improve my odds of an in-state big game harvest.  I waited for the outcome of the special permit drawing before making a decision.  After seeing the results of my special permit drawings (second deer, MH deer, MH second elk, antlerless elk, bull elk), that multi-season deer looked pretty expensive for what I would get.

My hunch is that many others thought that this was like the special permit drawing--they didn't bother to check the tag cost until after the drawing.

Failed meaning just did not buy, did not mean that the person is a failure.  Sorry if that is how it sounded.  It was just the term I felt covered both those like yourself that willingly chose not to buy as well as those that may have spaced it..

I thought the MS Deer was required to even apply for and get a Second deer tag?

You drew all those tags?  good lord I hope you bought lottery tickets too!!  Congrats man.

Look for places that are open 24/7.  Wally World is that kind of store.  Just make sure you talk to someone before hand so they have someone at 12AM who can run the machine.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!

So what does it cost these days for a Multiseason elk tag?

You could have just said you don't need the second tag, no need for the snide remarks.  I did post in the form of a question asking for clarification for a reason...

Regs were not 100% clear to me with how it was worded in regards to allowing entry for special permits and I had heard someone say MS was needed to put in for 2nd deer hunts.

Congrats on your Muley tag.

what a money hungry game this has turned into.  might as well save your permit application fee and just wait until they go on sale.  the prices are outrageous and us all buying them justifies their price, boycot the tags and let them take a hit and maybe they will change their ways.  one can hope.  quick math, 3300 deer tags at $139 = $458,700, add in the elk of 180 tags and $182=32,760. for a grand total of $491,460.  a few of these hits to the dept might open their eyes a little.  I know its a long shot to have the entire group hold out, but for one deer at $139, is unreal.  its like a second deer tag that was $87,  that's an awfully expensive doe

This forum is barely a scratch on the surface of the number of hunters in this state.  Threads here had nothing to do with how fast they sold out.  Everyone got the email about it.

I would think folks in line be talking to each other while waiting and thread like this would come up, but I have not seen anyone say anything to that regard..

I dunno about your experience, but when I first searched for such a forum as this it was for finding information, having a place to talk to others who share a similar interest, and also giving back by helping others with their hunting. That's exactly what this forum provides and why its such a ritual for many of us to come on here.

 :yeah:
This thread was my reminder to get my tag. I thought I could do it on line and went on about 11:50 and figured out that I had to go to a license vendor to get it. I ran down and got there about 12:10. They said they were able to get one guy a multi season elk tag before they ran out. I did get the multi season deer and I still have a point for next years draw. Worked out good for me. Just lucky I guess!

I am all for helping people, and have given lots of advice on here.  It's just that with only 180 elk tags, and way more people than tags we're doing more harm to those who really care about it.

I am just suggesting that there is s time that helping hurts.  Kind of like when people post specific areas for elk.  I am glad for all the help people get here, but never forget anything posted here is accessible to anyone with Google.   :twocents:

You seem to be implying that without HuntWa there would not have been 180 hunters who knew about a tag sale that WDFW advertised and sent out E-mail notification of.

You give the net too much credit.

You seem to be implying that without HuntWa there would not have been 180 hunters who knew about a tag sale that WDFW advertised and sent out E-mail notification of.

You give the net too much credit.
If you read my earlier post I said that is not what I was implying.   However if that one person in line in front of me found out here there goes my chance.  That's all.

WHERE'S LUVMYSTANG67?? Figured he'd be posting a picture of his Multi-Season Elk tag that he said nobody else would beat him to...

Haha, I didn't even try.  I've got better things to do at noon on a workday than compete for a tag that I cannot get.  If we could buy it online, that would've been a different game.

Drew Upper Smith Creek bull this year and have an Idaho tag in lieu of a mutiseason elk.  I decided I'm mostly done giving the state money for multiseason deer unless I'm bored some future year.

I'm happy for those who did though.
