Title: Finally trying pig roast pics again.
Post by: Mtn.Ghost on August 06, 2015, 05:51:13 PM
Well folks, I hope that I figured out how to re-size the pics that were way to large on my previous attempts to bring some pig roasting happiness to your eyes :chuckle: As some of you may recall I roasted my first whole pig for my nieces college graduation in mid July. I constructed a homemade rotisserie just for the occasion. Here are a series of pics as the roast progressed.....well I hope you see pics this time :chuckle:

Some specs: Pig= 97lbs on the rod.

Injected with about 2 gal of brine from inside and out.

Rubbed inside with my rub mix.

Rubbed outside with olive oil and more rub mix.

Stuffed with apples, walla walla onions, celery and sweet potatoes and stitched by a real nurse  :chuckle:

9 hours at 6 rpm and 140#'s of charcoal and some home harvested apple and cherry wood later.....
we had nothing short of a fabulous feast of falling off the bone, tender, juicy, flavorful spit roasted pork. This was a serious backyard, beer drinkin, pig pickin :EAT: :brew:

The machine worked without flaw from the get go and all the way to the end.
Can't wait to do this again :whoo:

Wonderful craftsmanship on the rotisserie! The pig don't look half bad either!  :EAT:

I am reminded of the Julia Childs' episode where she roasted a wiener pig in the oven. Just before she put it in, (BTW, she had consumed at least one full bottle of wine while preparing the pig) just before putting the pig in the oven, she held up the tail and said, "(hic) We must be careful not to burn this, as the presentation requires it. Fortunately, nature has provided!" Whereupon she inserted the tail in the anal opening, then placed the pig in the oven.

That looks on point.  I would love to build something like this.

What did it cost to build? Do you have a schematic?

About $700 ish and the schematic is in my brain :chuckle:
The closest thing available commercially runs $1500-$1700 and has only about 1/3 the capability.

That is pretty much the same setup we had at our wedding. We had a friend roast it for us and it turned out great. Would love to build one one of these days.

Officially impressed,Some of you on this forum are nothing shy of awesome.I take it the fan was to keep motor and gear box cool?On this last pic. I must say the stand table is pretty ingenious as well.   (2 THUMBS UP)

Nice looking roaster you have there BW.
I like the accessory stand

JonnyJ, yes the fan was just an extra measure because it was 98 degrees the day we had our roast and being pretty close to a 400 degree fire for 10 hrs I figured a little wind couldn't hurt :chuckle:
It never has heated up on any occasion though. Thanks for the complements, hope you get around to building yourself one some day.
