You should try to go to the trapping rendezvous in cashmere this weekend.  There's always guys selling traps there that work well, and can be bought at half the price. Im heading there tomorrow for the weekend.
There's also an ad in the classifieds that bigshooter put. Those seem like they are reasonably priced.

 :yeah:

But I do like comstock.  And I really, really like advanced traps.  Kirks mechanism is awesome, the only down side is his traps are a little heavier than most traps of the same size.

THEY ARE AN EXCEPTIONAL TRAP, EXCELLENT DESIGN AND BUILT WELL. I HAD 4 AND USED THEM FOR A COUPLE YEARS UNTIL I INVENTED MY OWN. IF YOU DONT HAVE THE TIME AND ABILITY TO MAKE SOME, AND HAVE THE MONEY  THEY ARE EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT

I run three on my line. They work well. I would have more, but as you indicated the price is high. Something to consider. They are great water traps, but they are also very effective for use in land sets. Opossum and racoon will enter them. Comstock also says they will work for bobcats, but so far I haven't tried them on cat sets. I would recommend starting out with one until the price of beaver belts goes up. When you can get a quicker return on your investment then buy more.

The Comstock trap is fabulous! Very powerful doors that close inward knocking any fast swimmer in the nose and back into the trap. They'll catch any sized beaver and the fastest otters. Buy one if you can and see for yourself. Beavers can be brutal on a trap when caught and I have some of these traps that have caught dozens of beavers and still perform flawlessly. Very sturdy trap. My time is so valuable that the money for this cage really isn't that bad.
