Title: Montana Bird Report
Post by: Bluemoon on August 17, 2015, 08:13:34 AM
As we are starting our third week of our training camp out here in N.C. Montana, I thought I might pass this information along.  If any of you were ever considering a trip out to MT. for Upland Bird Hunting this would be the year to go.  The number of birds we are seeing is simply put AMAZING.  For the past three years there has basically been no severe winters so the hold over rate has been great.  This Springs hatching conditions were near perfect with no rains until the 4th of July weekend.  Now there are Grasshoppers and Crickets every where for a great Protein source.  We and our farmers friends are seeing two very strong hatches of Pheasant, Sharpies and Huns. the most I have seen in my 10 years of coming out here.
The "great they says" who watch the weather are predicting a very severe winter this year which will mean hold over for the following year will not be favorable.  So if you ever thought about it.  Think no longer and go.
Regards

Was out there about a month ago and saw plenty flying over the roads to Havre.

How are the snakes?

Aspen
In all my years of coming out here, I have only seen two of them.  As a rule of thumb if you avoid the prairie dog towns you can avoid the snakes.  I do vaccinate all my dogs as a precaution though.

Well damn.  Had a trip planned for this fall and have had some stuff come up so I decided to put it off.......Now you're making me rethink that decision.
