Title: Any bugles yet?
Post by: BUTTER on August 20, 2015, 05:27:01 PM: Drove around the other night hit some good bugling spots just to hear for any answers nothing quite yet anyone else hearing much action yet?

The bulls were still bachelored up even. Will be interesting to see things start changing very soon and see them split up and start separating the cows.

Post by: Duckhunter14 on August 31, 2015, 12:56:31 PM: Got one response scouting this weekend over in the Colockum and heard one bugle a long ways off on his own at day break Sunday. Saw 10 bulls in 2 days, no real rut activity yet. Still large groups of cows with young bulls, and bachelor groups running together. Watched a 7x6 and 5x5 spar off and on as they fed for about 20 min Sunday too that was cool. They were all hard horned other than one true spike. All the decent busks were too, other than a couple small 2 points. Rut should really be roaring by the 12th.

We were in Lynch Creek last night, my son thought he heard one while we were driving, but I didn't let him reply unless we heard one for sure. Can't hunt em in there, but it's fun to get them fired up!!

Post by: Duckslayer89 on September 01, 2015, 11:46:28 PM: Heard about 40-50 bugles this morning from 8-10 bulls. I think they messed the deer hunting up every clear cut I usually see deer in had bugling Bulls. (Gated road) I only saw one deer and usually I would see 15-20 on the loop I ride.

If every guy in the state didn't buy an archery elk tag and only have 12 days of season to fill it it would be awsome... Sept 1st - 30th. Spread the pressure out and get guys in the woods at differnt times...

I've heard bugles everyday from the 30 th till today. They just arnt interested in the calls yet. It's starting though. Only a week before they'll want to play.

Post by: deerhunter_98520 on September 04, 2015, 09:41:25 PM: I got one fired up tonight in Minot...seen a herd of 50 cows in a cut right before dark and I cow called at them and they started goin nuts so I threw out a bugle and the herd bull in the timber didn't appreciate it...he called his cows and they single filed into the timber and bunched up...he tore up some trees and chuckled quite a bit at me

There was atleast 5 different bulls bugling in different locations in the canyon. Glassed 15 bulls including spikes and raghorns. Never really layed eyes on any bulls with size but since we will be hunting spikes and cows we were pretty happy with what we found.

The 12th is gonna be a good day. I got a friend down there with 120 acres and 3 herds of elk but odds are he won't let us hunt. Luckily there's plenty of other land around there full of rutting bulls :chuckle:

I'm hunting SW too but it's been a few weeks since my last trip out to check cams. They weren't talking then and only have gotten cows in the cam pics. I'm heading out Wednesday evening to spend a few days locating and checking pics and hope they're talkin.

I decided to cow call at my third cam and instantly the timber cam alive with chatter. I cow called for half an hour and had the heard bull going nuts. Pretty neat. I had my neighbor which is his first year elk hunting at ahhwwww with the situation. I kept my cool and acted like this is normal :chuckle:

Post by: trophyhunt on September 07, 2015, 06:53:56 PM: We scouted the white river all weekend, didn't hear a single bugle. Put on about 19 miles, did see a couple nice bulls and a big 5 point but not a single bugle. That's fine with us, a late rut sounds good for the rifle rut tag in late sept.

We had them further south talking all morning the first few days. But once that sun came it was slow going. I'll be back out there after I fill this wa tag. Hopfully all the Bulls we seen are reactive to our calls.
