My neighbors and thier dogs are getting real annoyed by all the bugling coming from my house. :chuckle:
-
I was watching 2 spikes last weekend when another bull ripped a bugle on the next hillside
-
I'm out near Turnbull NWR (GMU 130) daily - no sound yet. Going out tonight, I'll let you know if I hear anything.
-
Since June 27th in Peaches ridge

Pretty intense pre rutting on Sunday....100 bugles between 6 bulls before noon...watched a cow get mounted

I made 4 trips to west wenaha in the last 6 weeks. Bulls screaming every day. Too bad I can't hunt it!
-
It has started! Watched a big 6x6 saturday morning bugling for a couple hours at first light
-
I have just watched a video of a bull bugling my buddy taped yesterday
-
Tagging for reference. Ive been arguing with a family member that its not too early.
-
Spent mid afternoon until about 10pm in 340 listening for bugles. Blew off my bugle a few times, along with a cow call. Got a cow to respond. Nothing in terms of bulls.
-
7x7 bugling in my back yard 15 min. ago. I would bugle then he would fire off. I was also cow calling from different rooms in my house and he kept moving from my front yard to back yard trying to find her. Lol
-
Think the archery season might be too late this year? Seemed like last year it was kind of early but with this much action as you guys are reporting I'm wondering
-
Have heard some buddies saying they were seeing a bull dogging a cow from the herd.
-
heard from a buddy this morning he saw some bulls chasing cows last night...
lets hope we get em with the season starting a week later
-
In 2 weeks they should be pretty hot
-
No bugles but plenty of rubs and saw a "big" group of cows with a young 6x6 on Saturday.
-
In 2 weeks they should be pretty hot
I know a certain one that is gonna go from HOT to freezer cold!! :chuckle:
-
They are starting to horn stuff pretty good.
Saw a big buck last night that was velvet free.
-
No velvet on the larger animals at st helens. Lots and lots of bugling. :twocents: Spikes were the only animals with velvet up there.

I found some they are talking... I am getting excited...
-
I don't know about else where but Rimrock has been real quite. Sat on a good herd last weekend and just watched. The bulls were still bachelored up even. Will be interesting to see things start changing very soon and see them split up and start separating the cows.
-
Bugling at night around here. Hard to get excited about it knowing the some of the locals will have the bulls poached out soon.
-
I was backpacking up at Summerland around Mount Rainier last week and the Elk were bugling pretty good.
-
Was in hancock Last night and had a couple bulls bugling..
-
hancock buckley last night, had one bull bugling/ raking trees. Saw a very nice 6x6 with 4 spikes and 6 cows.
-
Is there any east to west difference in bugle timing. I muzzy hunt SW and OP and never hear any vocals during the season? I am just wondering as I am not changing my plans this year and looking to an AR future.
-
I wish the bow season in WA was a week earlier.
-
Got one response scouting this weekend over in the Colockum and heard one bugle a long ways off on his own at day break Sunday. Saw 10 bulls in 2 days, no real rut activity yet. Still large groups of cows with young bulls, and bachelor groups running together. Watched a 7x6 and 5x5 spar off and on as they fed for about 20 min Sunday too that was cool. They were all hard horned other than one true spike. All the decent busks were too, other than a couple small 2 points. Rut should really be roaring by the 12th.

For the past several years all anyone could think was"Man, I wish the season was a week later!!" Funny/ not so funny how that works out. :chuckle:
-
Season is just fine where its at this year
-
I didn't have a problem where it was at if I had my choice it would be Sept 1st till Sept 30th no late season
-
:yeah:
-
Was in hancock Last night and had a couple bulls bugling..
We were in Lynch Creek last night, my son thought he heard one while we were driving, but I didn't let him reply unless we heard one for sure. Can't hunt em in there, but it's fun to get them fired up!!
-
I've been going out and bugling in every bull I can find, getting ready for season

Heard about 40-50 bugles this morning from 8-10 bulls. I think they messed the deer hunting up every clear cut I usually see deer in had bugling Bulls. (Gated road) I only saw one deer and usually I would see 15-20 on the loop I ride.

If every guy in the state didn't buy an archery elk tag and only have 12 days of season to fill it it would be awsome... Sept 1st - 30th. Spread the pressure out and get guys in the woods at differnt times...
I've heard bugles everyday from the 30 th till today. They just arnt interested in the calls yet. It's starting though. Only a week before they'll want to play.
-
Yup its better than what we had. We have made a step in the right direction this year imo mechanicals, season etc...

I just got back from a 5 day elk hunt in Eastern Oregon. Didn't hear a bugle. Not too uncommon this early in the season. Should be getting good in the next week. Hopefully heading back down after WA archery elk.

I got one fired up tonight in Minot...seen a herd of 50 cows in a cut right before dark and I cow called at them and they started goin nuts so I threw out a bugle and the herd bull in the timber didn't appreciate it...he called his cows and they single filed into the timber and bunched up...he tore up some trees and chuckled quite a bit at me
-
Did a scouting trip with a buddy yesterday and saw about 50 head of elk that included 3 bulls hanging out together away from the cows. Things ought to be picking pretty soon. We were in SW WA.
-
I went scouting and to get some footage for a video. 3-4 groups of elk and 15-29 bugles from 6-7 different Bulls- western wa.
-
Was over east yesterday and had about 120 head in a canyon bugling all morning. There was atleast 5 different bulls bugling in different locations in the canyon. Glassed 15 bulls including spikes and raghorns. Never really layed eyes on any bulls with size but since we will be hunting spikes and cows we were pretty happy with what we found.

The 12th is gonna be a good day. I got a friend down there with 120 acres and 3 herds of elk but odds are he won't let us hunt. Luckily there's plenty of other land around there full of rutting bulls :chuckle:

I'm hunting SW too but it's been a few weeks since my last trip out to check cams. They weren't talking then and only have gotten cows in the cam pics. I'm heading out Wednesday evening to spend a few days locating and checking pics and hope they're talkin.
-
Shoot me a pm net. I might be setting up the 10 th too. Maybe we could share stories and a cold one.

Herd bulls have cows already in my area. :bash:
-
Had a bull sounding off Saturday afternoon in Randle. Cows were talking quite a bit also.
-
This morning at 8am a bull was going nuts across the pasture. I didn't see him and if I wasn't leaving to haul hay I would have messed with him a bit. Maybe tonight or tomorrow morning. My daughter needs some more calling time.
-
Saw two bulls killing each other this morning....pretty cool to see
-
I was all over bethel ridge for 4 days heard nothing
-
I was out this morning checking my cams, I have elk on two out of three cams. Two legal Bulls. I decided to cow call at my third cam and instantly the timber cam alive with chatter. I cow called for half an hour and had the heard bull going nuts. Pretty neat. I had my neighbor which is his first year elk hunting at ahhwwww with the situation. I kept my cool and acted like this is normal :chuckle:
-
Man i wish i lived somewhere where i could afford to drive and scout elk on the weekends.
-
Just had one answer back to my daughter. He must be at least a 1/2 mile away. Will have her try it again a little closer to dark.
-
We scouted the white river all weekend, didn't hear a single bugle. Put on about 19 miles, did see a couple nice bulls and a big 5 point but not a single bugle. That's fine with us, a late rut sounds good for the rifle rut tag in late sept.
-
Found another herd bull tonight and will post a 6 min video once it uploads...I bugled and cow called with the herd for probably 30 min...he ran around and pushed cows around and bugled then another bull started firing off back farther in the timber
-
Heard some bugles tonight. Also saw s "280" bull all by himself

We had them further south talking all morning the first few days. But once that sun came it was slow going. I'll be back out there after I fill this wa tag. Hopfully all the Bulls we seen are reactive to our calls.
-
Been a long time... hunters are still lying :)
Been scouting for a month... pretty quite
Lots of rubs and satellites hanging near the cows.
Little noise... way to early
