Ive nevere heard of a model 288 and cannot find anything out about it on the internet so Im thinking its a 788......looking for a varmint gun but do you think 450 is a bit much for it because I do.....anyways lets hear whta you have to say? and elt me know about a 288 if there actually is such a rifle

I have never heard of a Rem 288 eather. I too think it is a 788. $450 dose sound a little high, but that depends on if it is the one you want or not. I am thinking you could find a better deal??? Maybe they will let yu make an offer? Good luck and have fun looking.

450 bare gun is really high. Good guns with detachable mag...but they should be in the 200-250 range for a prime shooter.
-
not bare gun I guess i forgot to add that it has a 4x scope and a sling but I still think thats very high.....I like the fact that it has the detachable magazine though

I've watched lots of them sell for $350 on the various web sites. As long as the scope isn't a Leopold or something else high dollor, I wouldn't pay over $350.

I would agree, unless the scope has about a $200 value, then the gun even with a 4x low end scope is only worth about $350 used at best. I believe they ran around $419new + tax at most of the local stores around Spokane when they first came out, and that was with a 3-9x scope.

+1 on that. I had a model 788 in .243 for many years and they are a solid bolt action rifle and mine shot well. This would make a great varmint gun, but $450 is too high. Personally, I wouldn't give much over $350, depending on condition, or else I'd be looking into buying something new for just a couple hundred more. :twocents:

i searched all afternoon there isn't a 288. must be a spelling screw up.
