Title: Pinks in the snohomish area?
Post by: Rob on September 02, 2015, 03:41:03 PM: I'm not much of a fisherman, but I want to get an 11 year old kid I spend time with out to catch a few pinks tomorrow after work. We will only have a couple hours to fish (5:30 to sundown).

I'd like to do it from a boat, I have a small 14 foot wahoo. With the Weather the way it is, I am not really wanting to get out on the sound so I was thinking Rivers.

I was thinking I'd launch at the Everett Marina and head up the Snohomish a ways and start casting. Does that sound workable? any better ideas? We are bound by a time restriction so I can't be driving long distances (we are starting in the Everett area).

Post by: h20hunter on September 02, 2015, 03:42:59 PM: Rob....I'd launch at the Lowell-Larimer road launch and work your way upriver. Look for pockets of jumpers and work them with pink jigs, dick nites cast and brought back across the current, or even a float and pink jig tipped with a little sand shrimp.

Post by: h20hunter on September 02, 2015, 03:52:50 PM: Also....if you want to leave the boat behind I think Jason Stevens on here has been knocking a few back....you could stay on the bank and be a bit more mobile. Off Broadway, near Snohomish, is Thomas Eddy. Easy walk in access and quite a bit of room to fish. It is a very well known spot and can get pretty busy.

We went crabbing last week and I tossed in a pole. We hooked up with one pink that we lost at the boat while letting the crab rings soak and he is hooked so I wanted to get out again tomorrow.

single barbless hook in the rivers I assume...

Post by: Rob on September 03, 2015, 09:33:33 PM: Success! We hit the launch you recommended and after about 15 min, he had one on and lost it at the boat. about 3 casts later he landed his first Salmon ever. Nice little 4 pound Pink.

Bite went dark after that, but he was hooked. headed back next week weather permitting.

Really appreciate the advice!

The kid I am taking fishing is in the Big Brother Big Sisters program with me. We do things on most Thursday nights so with the shortening days, we are running into daylight issues. We are trying to get a few weekend trips planned (we did Ape and Lake Caves yesterday). Hoping to get him on his first deer hunt in October.
