What a short season. Put my daughter in for the multiseason and she didn't get drawn. We were going to do muzzy and rifle but rifle it had to be.
When the extra permits came available we got her one. We had just finished the rinehart archery shoot and had jacked her bow up to 36 pounds so she could shoot a little further. I mentioned when she got the MS permit she was only 4 pounds away from being legal to deer hunt also and really get some use out of the permit.
Challenge accepted. We jacked it up to 40 pounds and switched to heavier arrows and tips to be legal. She was doing great and really did good when we went carp shooting last weekend. After taking a couple of carp her confidence was sky high.
Two days later was opening day, we setup a ground blind where 3 trails all passed by. It was pretty cold and she was having trouble staying warm. As I was giving her a bear hug to warm her up I heard a twig break. We turned aroun to see a spike at 10 yards. 3pt minimum area but fun to see.
One hour later we see a group of bucks coming down the ridge. A two point, a spike and a legal buck. I get her standing up bow in hand and ready to shoot. They are coming from her left and she says she can only see straight in front of her. I calm her down and tell her I will let you know when to draw.
Deer comes into the opening and I say draw, she starts to and the deer stops dead in its tracks but she has stopped drawing. It waits a few seconds and starts to walk. I say draw all the way no matter what. She does and the deer stops and looks again. I say shoot if you can and she drills it.
I watch the arrow hit perfectly without the use of a lighted nock. :stirthepot: anyways away it goes with the arrow it. At 100 yards it stops and pulls the arrow out and I can see the blade marks below the shoulder blade and above the knee in the left leg. Before I can worry too much it lays down. 10 minutes go by and it stands up wobbles and lays back down. Now I know we are good. Eyes keep closing, breathing is heavy and it expires.
After tagging it and taking some field photos I gut it and find the arrow went through the leg, into the chest cavity and hit the heart.
She is only 13 and I am super proud of how hard she worked to get this done and how composed she was for a very quick shot.
I think the two hours of hunting she got of the MS permit was totally worth the price.
364 more days until deer season but only 2 months until her rifle colockum cow tag.

Dang it, photos are twisted but you get the idea.
It was an awesome past few days for sure.
