anyone here fishing em yet? went out yesterday trolling in front of batemans island and picked up a small Chinook. had one other strike but lost it almost immediately.
I think its fixing to get good soon, my boat should be outta the shop today with a new impeller and fresh tune up on the main motor, and Ive got a new carb and water pump for the Honda kicker to get it ready to go!
-
I went out last weekend and caught 3 adults (biggest being 17lbs) and 2 steelhead. Pretty slow fishing but they are starting to show...hopefully the weeds will be better this weekend.
-
yeah we fought the weeds pretty hard after about 9am yesterday, wasn't terrible earlier then that though. only gonna get better!
-
18 boats at the mouth this morning when I drove over the bridge at 6:00. Pretty popular place.
-
Was out this morning at bateman caught one it was very slow and weeds were pretty bad. Anyone been to vernita yet?
-
2nd hand knowledge, but my dads buddy was at vernita a couple days ago and did pretty good, cant remember exactly what he caught, had 3 or 4 trips reports coming to me at once lol.
-
Thanks for the update I have been wanting to give it a try there just think it's still early but have heard of a few caught there
-
The next 6-7 days will get interesting, then I think it'll really take off. I gotta work till friday morning, when I get off I'm headed straight to ranch and home, then to the river :IBCOOL:
-
Any body ever run break away flashers trolling around tri cities? I think I'm gonna buy some, as long as they work. Hoping the weeds won't trip em or something, though I guess if the weeds were that bad it'd be time to clean gear anyways.
-
Never hear of them but would be interested in hearing if they work, I have lost a few fish this year already and think the flasher plays a big part sometimes

I run break-away Q-Coves out here in the salt, love them. Weeds should not be an issue, I've never noticed the eelgrass or other gunk trip the flasher. I do think that I lose less fish using them. Remember to not jamb the pin in, it needs to be just slipped in gently.

fishing with you actually is what made me want them, I though we had some but I was thinking of our side planer boards.
im gonna pick up 3 or 4 on Friday and giver her a go, much nicer fighting a fish, instead of a bunch of gear and a fish!
-
That's funny, I actually thought it was someone else asking about these. :chuckle:

My dad runs the breakaway flashers up at Vernita when we go up there. When I run cut-plug herring, most of the time I don't even run a flasher when we're up there fishing for kings. If you run flashers up there or around town just remember to put a t-bead above it to try to catch the weeds. We'll be heading up to Vernita for the camp this Thursday. Should be good by then.
-
What's everyone's take on how fast the fall kings get to tri city area after they cross Mcnary. I have heard everything from 1 to 10 days.
-
I've heard 4 or 5 days. Looking at all the dam counts though it looks to be 3 or so days that they're able to move through the dams.
-
That's sounds about right, I have been watching the dam counts pretty close. I'm off to white bluffs to give that a shot.
-
Good luck, I still haven't tried the white bluffs hole. But I heard of decent fishing up there and vernita last weekend, so it should be good. With over 10000 going over McNary the last two days this weekend should be good.
-
Can some of you guys post up pic'ts of how you are rigging? All I have ever used is plugs with no success. Been a while since i even tried, but might have time during this run.

What are you trying to fish with that you need help with the rigging? Herring, superbaits, plugs, eggs? Off downriggers, weight, or divers?
-
No down riggers, maybe i need one. Years ago when i fished for salmon the hot ticket was magworts or wigglewarts or flat fish, not to mention the old Krokidile. Now i am hearing about super-baits, breakaway flashers and other things that i don't even know what they are. Just wanted to see a set up that works. I hate relying on the sporting goods stores for information.
-
Go on youtube. Search how to rig a brads bait. Or Hanford reach salmon. That's how I learned, then made some modifications.
-
Sportsman has a board with different setups displayed and ranch and home has some setups displayed as well. Basically it is a 11 in poll troll flasher with a leader about 3 feet to 5 feet long to a superbait with tuna stuffed inside or you could use a wrapped kwick fish or troll herring behind the flasher
-
Im having coffee at the McNary fish ladder right now. A king coming through about every two minutes and some really nice steelhead..
Just a heads up!!!!

There is a viewing station at mcnary?

Didn't know the dams were in when you were a kid. That was a long ass time ago.
-
Still producing ? The numbers in the paper look good.
-
The past few days have been REALLY slow in town, but have been productive up at ringold. hooked into a VERY large salmon today, had him on for a bit, on his 3rd run he stripped over 300 ft off the rod, then get the weight snagged up and he broke off, he was over 40 easily.

That's exciting! We stopped at Bonniville Lock and watched kings heading up and Boy Howdy are there some PIGGIES!!!!!!
-
Yeah too bad they don't have the webcam at Bonneville anymore, used to check that daily to see some of the fish coming over the dam lol.
-
They still have the web cam.
-
you got a link? every time I try to look it says it is down due to high usage or something like that
-
The can is not in operation. Next time I go through I could stop and take a pic and post it. :chuckle:
-
lol, that'd just be mean, stringing my addiction along!

you used to be able to go into the one on the Washington side too. Now there is a camera monitor you can watch it from on the Oregon side, or you can go into the actual viewing room on the Oregon side and watch them through the glass
