So I got drawn for the MZ Cow tag in the Colockum, which I am really stoked about. This is my third cow tag in five years and I am such a meat hunter that I get just as excited to hunt a cow as a bull. Well maybe not as excited, but really close. I have been spending more time than I should checking out google maps and searching for a spot to get away from the masses and have figured out a couple spots I want to focus on. My question is the green dot map that I got from WDFW shows which roads are closed or not, but how accurate is the map? The gentleman I was talking with when I ordered the map stated that they were going to come out with a new one for next year and it made me wonder if the map may be a little out of date.
I'm headed over a few days early to get set up and fine tune where I want to be but was wondering if my closed areas are now open to driving or closed areas are now open to driving. Thanks and good luck to everyone. If anyone is over there hunting and needs a hand, shoot me a PM if you need a pack mule. And if your a MZ bull tag holder and I see a stud, I'll send you a message if you want.

All in all the maps are pretty accurate. I did get one from DNR once that had a mistake on jump off ridge road. I went up there about a month ago and you have to be careful because a lot of signs that are suppose to be there for road closed signs have been removed or destroyed and the closed roads look like they have been traveled as much as the open ones.

Depending on which map I know they decommissioned and rerouted a couple of roads in 2014 and some roads were closed down during the fires so if the map was produced pre 2014 it may be off.

The DNR just closed the north Pettit Rd from Colockum rd to the end at Frustration point at the elk reserve fenceline. They also tore up and tank trapped a ton of closed roads between colockum road and the powerlines to the east, glad to see them do that, will keep a lot of people off the roads they shouldn't be driving on!

Better than my weekend. No worries Jerry it will all come together

My experience with the green dot maps is that they are pretty accurate.

Thanks guys. I figure if the road on the map is closed then I'll go by that. Correct me if I'm wrong but I am under the impression that greed dots are ok to drive and no sign means it's closed, right. Which would make sense why someone would want to remove the green dot sign. Make other people think it's closed so they can drive it alone.

Yes and very likely so.
Good luck......

the closed road are very obvious over there . good luck.

I took a drive up there yesterday.
Made a loop around the elk preserve and couldn't believe what I saw.
There are already over 25 camps set up for the archery opener! Lol

If any of you happen to see a giant bull and are willing to share the details, feel free to PM me. I might be the lucky #*%@!* that drew the Rut Colockum rifle tag! Been a blast scouting, can't wait to see how the next couple of weeks play out!

Dang Love to Hunt...If you have that tag, shooting the one in the pic would probably be ok...
-
No Doubt! It would definitely make me happy! It's going to be amazing. Soooo many bulls to choose from. Will be interesting to see what happens come the 25th! I can hardly wait. Been there probably 7 weekends so far and will be there the entire week before my season begins!
