So I want to put a couple cams out at a spot I found to hunt last year, to see whats still around, mostly mule deer, but ive seen a few white tails running around on odd years in the area. I don't want to leave them to long, I was thinking, this weekend, till next weekend, its desert/scrub grass, one location has a water catch basin, the other I can put on a trail.
for a short soak like this, should I mess with any kind of baiting? or just place it on the trails and hope for the best?
To far of a drive to do much more then this one week, as I will already be in the area this weekend and next. Never placed cams before, so im kinda lost on how to get the best of a short period.

Part of the answer could be in how fast is the cameras shutter speed. My Moultries take good pictures if the animals stand there a minute, but when they walk by, all I see is landscape. I think the Cuddeback's are good for just setting up on a trail or waterhole(like a 1/4 sec trigger speed). I read the Bushnell Trophy cams have really fast speeds now (1/3 sec?wow) Doesn't seem like they used to. Anyway back on the east coast corn worked well. On the west side of Washington I've had good luck with apples and ripe pears. Hope you post a few pics.

I'm not even sure what the shutter speed is on these cams, can't even remember the model off the top of my head, cheaper promos cams, seemed to pick up the neighborhood cars ok on my first test soak lol

If baiting is too big a pain maybe if it's a spot where they have to walk towards the camera instead of just past it.

I'd just put the camera on the water tank on the one. The other I'd put something down to stop them and let the camera do its thing. Probably something that they will smell, like apples and pears. Pumpkins work well but it's a little early for them.

I can put the cameras where they will walk into it, ill pack 20# of apples to put down to.
I could even just place the one at the water and call it good, as im pretty sure the other trail is just a path to the water from their feed. hopefully I can update this with a picture next week!

get some wicks and buy apple oil scent and put it on the wicks..you will get deer coming to it looking for apples. If its not a pain take in apples.. we get them for free around here so its easy to dump them
