Title: High Hunt??
Post by: HUNTNORTHWEST on September 12, 2015, 12:03:55 PM
How many members here have their high hunt plans thrown out of the window with the fire closures?

I know my original plans are no longer possible.

Never hunted a high hunt, if they opened a season on the East side it would be a pumkin patch over here. These fires are tough on everyone, definitely a rough year. Sorry about your luck.

There are plenty of "plan B" options out there.  Remember, the season hasn't even started yet.  It would be wise to spend this weekend packing your gear.

t gomez,  I have hunted in 4 different places on the eastside in the high hunt in the last 50 years.  there are a lot of places but you have to walk to get to all of them.  mike w

I agree with Crab Creek.  The Okanogan and Chelan fires did not affect the High Hunt; the Pasayten and Lake Chelan Recreation areas are open.  Almost all of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness is open (Hatchery Creek area is closed).  Henry M Jackson Wilderness is open and all Wilderness areas on the Olympic Penninsula are open.  Plenty of good choices.

The only area closed is the Chiwawa River Road, Entiat River Road and the Lucerne/Holden area all in GMU 244.  I will attached a link to the closure map.   P.S.  The campfire closure in the Wilderness has been lifted.

Fires didn't affect High Hunt?!? I would say having Chiwawa River rd closed because of the Wolverine Fire affects Glacier Peak Wilderness just a tad.....

The good news is I always have 2-3 back up plans in place. There is still plenty of places to go just a bummer when plan A fails. Anyways I wish all the hunters good luck on the high hunt and to be safe out in the wilderness on their adventures.

My comment was that only the Wolverine fire affected the High Hunt; not the Chelan or Okanogan County fires.  Having the Chiwawa and Entiat closed is a big deal but there are other places to hunt.  The Paysayten, Stehekin (Lake Chelan Recreation area) plus some of GMU 244 is still open. It is likely to be crowed with more than just the Entiat closed this year; the Entiat Valley was closed in 06, 12 and 14 because of fires and that did put additional hunters into the areas south of Entiat.
