Title: ND first day out
Post by: JODakota on September 14, 2015, 05:10:24 PM: Lots of birds to be had this year, would've had more but extremely poor shooting on my part. Wife was ready to go so we split. Appearently with the oilfield slowdown a lot more people have time to hunt. Was beat out to a few spots, which has never happened to me here, especially for the grouse and partridge opener. This is Waylon's third season and much to his pure disgust and disappointment I missed some perfect shots over his points, But to Patsy's pure excitement and first hunt had one shot over her and a solid retrieve. At six months she is a monster in the field. Holding points was not something I expected out of her yet but she is. Looking forward to a great season. And the wife found a cool dead head!

Thanks. Jim it was soooo bad. I've been pounding geese for the last month, I had no excuse for my shooting today to give to these little guys

Post by: wildweeds on September 26, 2015, 11:15:13 AM: Nice, looks like you could trim the green strap back about 8 inches :chuckle: I just got back from eastern montana,super spooky wild jumping birds and high winds.I did manage to shoot a really nice double of sharpies that held for a point and me to flush them over my head and into the wind,dropped the first at 25 yards and the second at 50 or so. Hows the britt working for you?

Post by: Bill W on September 26, 2015, 12:10:52 PM: some trainers leave the straps long so they can restrain the dog. I saw that in use a while ago and thought it was a good idea. I have a lab.

haha well, one dog is a 6 month old pup growing like a weed, so not going to trim yet. both dogs have a decent range and I would prefer not to cut my remote short by trimming a collar that is a little long. It also does help to grab them. Nice job on the Sharpies! It has been high winds and wild flushes pretty early here as well. Waylon is a awesome, he has turned into a fine bird dog!
