Title: big thank-you to Kenzmad, Lokidog, Weathergirl, OutdoorsJen, and Gilroym
Post by: elkboy on September 18, 2015, 09:46:20 AM
This post is essentially an open thank-you card to some great Hunt-WA members, who are truly some of the nicest people you can find.  On our brief but fun late-summer vacation, Kate and I were very blessed to go out on the saltwater with these incredibly generous folks, who took time and effort to introduce some dry-landers to the fun of fishing for pinks!

On Friday, August 7th, we met Kenzmad at the Everett marina bright and early.  Also on the boat was Gilroym, along for a venture after pink salmon.  As we motored out into the dark blue waters of the Sound, I confessed to Kenzmad that I knew essentially nothing about fishing. He kindly offered to answer any questions I might have, and did so with humor and extensive knowledge, for the rest of the day!  We all landed pink salmon, enjoying the scenery, the flotilla of other fishing boats, the beautiful weather, and the experience of being out on the Puget Sound.  Kate and I disembarked at the end of the day with plenty of pinks and the enormous gift of two new friends.

On Sunday the 9th, Kate and I found ourselves on a boat dock on Orcas Island, Washington, preparing to head out with Lokidog and Weathergirl, as well as fellow guest OutdoorsJen.   Almost as soon we had cruised across the calm surface of Obstruction Pass, we had some fish in the boat.  Like Kenzmad, Lokidog has an encyclopedic knowledge of fish and their ways, as well as the other wildlife of the Puget Sound.  The day flowed by, complete with sightings of bald eagles, marbled murrelets, porpoises, sea lions, harbor seals, and more.  Kate pulled in a dogfish (I think she was pretty taken with his good looks- fortunately for me, we had to return him to the water).  At day’s end, we said farewell to some great new friends, and turned our tires once more for the wheat fields of eastern Washington.

This forum has been a wealth of knowledge and entertainment, and has led to some great friendships!  Thank you again, Kenzmad, Lokidog, Weathergirl, Gilroym, and OutdoorsJen.  We look forward to the next time we meet.

Elkboy,

It sure sounds like you had some great experiences (and guides)!    I too have greatly benefited from HW forum.  I’ve met and hunted/fished with some absolutely outstanding people.   Through their generosity, I’ve been able get out and enjoy my new state.

Carl

Glad you had fun.  You forgot the two bucks there on Deer Point in the background of the dogfish pic.   ;)

Dogfish numbers are way down from years past.  Makes for happy moochers but maybe not for a happy ecosystem.   :dunno:

Thanks for riding along with me! Nothing like getting a newbie their first salmon. And WOW, she kissed a doggie? Braver than me! Was a great day on the water for sure.
