Title: How do you measure your powder?
Post by: sled on September 18, 2015, 05:29:37 PM
I always measure loose.  A guy at work said he was taught to tap on the powder measure to get it to settle then add more. Is this common, or did I miss something?

So you use a "dipper"?
There is info available on using powder dippers vs the other methods.... still, all are based on charge weight.

Dippers are faster and most that use them like them.
I have trust issues..... I weigh every charge.

An optimum charge allows for variation in charge weights while maintaing POI.

read your post again.
When I drop a charge from a powder measure, I strike the handle twice at the bottom in an effort to avoid "bridging" which can cause a light load and with fast powders and crimped cases can be hazardous.

I tap against a bench before clearing off the top.

Will tap the powder measure twice or so, but it does not seem to make much difference since it all flows pretty good to start with.

Those guys talking about weighing the powder... this was a muzzle loader question, usually common practice to go by volume not weight.
