Well I went out late last night looking for my 4x5 I missed opener and as I was walking and gassing a very nice 3x3 pops up and busted me. I backed out and he moved up the ridge in to some heavy cover. Been the story of the year so far. I'm going to try and find him again this weekend. I've had lots of little buck with in 20 yards but the bigger one seem to be out smarting me lol. Hope to get him down but I can always put my wife on them during rifle season.

What type of deer are you after?
-
Mule deer. The terrain is sage/ pine. They have been hanging on the edge of the pine in the thick sage.
-
I've had the same issues. I've seen a group of bucks 3 different times but I can't get close enough for the shot
-
I have 6 small bucks I can get in on easy but they aren't legal lol. Now if I had even a muzzle load it would be dead deer. Might be a late season hunt this year.

Same here the first day I seen them I was within 100 yards that's an easy muzzleloder shot :bash:

Well I'm trying to figure out how to locate the dang buck again. The damn cover in there is thick and he can get out and into three different draws pretty easy.
-
Hope you find him!

spotting scope and pattern his movment's

Only got a few days to hunt him. I can try for the wife's modern tag to get him nailed down.

Went out tonight looking for him. Well a little glassing and thought I found him in some heavy brush. Put a stalk in and popped up 40 yards from where I saw him bedded only to find a small 2 point and five doe's. So back to looking another day.

I tried this weekend with a bow and it was so dry and crunchy it was very difficult to sneak around without getting caught. I had a nice whitetail I was trying to get but there was just no way for me to get close enough without getting busted. The dry pinecones were like land mines. It will be late season for me if it happens this year.

I always tried to funnel mule deer from their bedding to feeding area. Find a place where the deer trails lead to a funnel where they like to enter/exit feeding areas. I shot 80% of my mule deer with this method. Most shots 35-50 yards. Good luck to you!

After being busted a few times this year. I'm started trying to use this tactic.

Went in last night and saw zero deer in the area. Think they have started hitting heavy cover. Guess it will be late season for me doesn't look like I'll have to get back out.
