Title: Winston Unit question
Post by: slickmannick on September 26, 2015, 07:44:41 AM
I know there are already a ton of post regarding the Winston unit, so please don't advise me to try the search feature. I assure you I have done that and came to the conclusion that just asking the question is way easier than sifting through hundreds of post that don't answer the question.

I am curious how accessible the middle/north portion of the Winston unit is, more specifically, around Cedar creek. This is just south of Barrier dam. So besides swimming across the cowlitz, is there much access to this part of the unit? Any info is appreciated, pm's welcome.

the 1000 line acrossed from the 3000 line will zig  zag you around behind the dam a little bit. But you still going to have to cover some area to make it back that far.

I've been back to the other side of Barrier before. Not a lot of elk sign back there but did bump a few does. It's a big, flat clear cut back there with some decent timber patches. It's state land. Bout seven miles in on the logging roads to get there. Then you have to hike in behind a gate. Probably find more elk in other areas honestly.
