With just a couple days away where do you find cows on bethel? Haven't seen any yet any help out there....
-
How much scouting have you done, have you even ever hunted the area?
-
Which weapon?
-
I think you have to earn this one on your own. Get in the woods and burn some boot leather.
-
Welfare elk
-
bethel is imo the best elk unit in the state... That doesn't mean you will see elk from the road every time you drive a road in bethel... However, if you look at a map and find the largest area without a road in the unit and start walking, you will find elk. I walked about three miles before killing the bull in my avatar.
Good luck!

The state must be predicting a harshe winter. Have you seen the bales of feed at the feed station on hwy12?
-
They are predicting heavy snow this year
-
Then, they just didn't adjust there inventory for the next year, bowhunterwa?
-
Finding a cow in bethel should be easy. Get off the road at least a mile, and you should start running into them. Sometimes if the terrain is nasty enough you don't even have to go that far.
-
All im saying is i live 15 minutes away and half of that hay hasnt moved since last winter...it would be nice if we got a good winter this year tho.
As far as finding a cow in that unit...the op must not be looking very hard...at all....

Just shoot one off the highway. Saw 40 this morning during shooting light and 6 more during the day today in the bethel unit.
-
I've sat next to trees, to take a rest, and have watched them fed up next to my feet.
-
Go to the top and start looking around the tops of creek basins.

Please disregard the unnecessary comments. Sadly some people jump at any opportunity to bash someone.
I've never hunted the unit but I can help you. If you prefer to road hunt then stop and use your optics a lot, glass every distant ridge and hillside, when you see elk then go after them. You can be just as successful by glassing from the road as hiking over the mountain.
If you prefer to hike to hunt then do as someone else suggested, get a map of the area and study it, hike into the remote spots and out of the way locations, those are a natural get-away for elk to escape hunting pressure. Elk are survivors, they find where to go to escape hunting pressure! Good Luck!

To the OP:
It really is a solid elk unit.
If you wander in, start checking dirt roads for fresh elk tracks. It won't take long. there are plenty.
good luck.

I had a Cow tag in there many years ago, about 20 and was hard pressed to find an Cow. Walked all over in the 4 days the tag was open (if I remember correctly). The last hour of the last day, I missed one. Keep at it.
Right now, I would look on the edges of a north slope.....

Yeah, when I hear a GetSum member say it's not that far... :bdid: double what you hear and that's pretty close, except blrman, triple what he says because he's part goat himself. :chuckle:

Thanks for the comments ...hope I find one tomorrow morning

Post the pics!

You shouldn't have any problem filling that tag!
