Title: Greys Harbor area rivers?
Post by: SuperFull on October 12, 2015, 06:33:51 PM: I will be heading to Ocean Shores this weekend with my wife and kids for her family reunion. I am going to sneak out for about half the day on Saturday and try to hit a river for a couple hours from shore.

Looking for silvers. I know the OP and PS rivers real well just not the GH area rivers. I am trying to stay away from the Hump because I assume that it will be fairly crowded, and I am not a shoulder to shoulder type fisherman. I was thinking about trying the Wishkah because of its proximity to ocean shores and more secluded atmosphere. I have found some shore access on this river, just not a whole lot. Anyone know of good access spots on this river? Or suggestions on other rivers? Feel free to pm if u don't want to share on the open forum. Thanks in advance for the help.

Post by: outlawbuck on October 12, 2015, 07:09:03 PM: A little drive but you could hit the Chehalis in Aberdeen. Fish at the little park just on the edge of town by the Walmart. You'll see the other fishermen there throwing size 4 to 6 vibrax spinners in green, orange, yellow, or pink.

Post by: deerhunter_98520 on October 12, 2015, 08:03:21 PM: :yeah: if you don't wanna fish the hump this would be your easiest spot to fish....from the park all the way down to behind Walmart is good...they have been catching silvers there...just go a couple hours before high tide and fish through it an hour or so....lots of room to fish so its not elbow to elbow

the wishkah can be really frustrating to access if you don't know anybody that owns property up there. if you've found access you've probably found all you're going to get easily, unfortunately. the fish are sort of here today, gone tomorrow because it's such a small river.

Thank you all for the ideas. Is this area considered the river or the salt? I don't have my saltwater license and don't plan on getting one. When r the quinaults nets in the river? Don't wanna hit an area Saturday that would be devoid of fish if they are all downstream being corked off.

I looked at the copalis on google earth and it seems to b a mostly tidal river. Nice and close to ocean shores though. Is there any access to the upper reaches? Appears that some logging roads come close. I mostly chuck spinners for silvers, is that the most commonly used method here? And where is the green lantern tavern and Roosevelt beach access points if u don't mind sharing?

Post by: BigGoonTuna on October 13, 2015, 09:07:02 PM: green lantern is right off highway 109 in the town of copalis beach, about 15 minutes north of ocean shores. can't miss it. roosevelt beach is the public access a few miles north of there. i did some exploring when i used to live out there on the logging roads, the only one i ever found crossed the upper river up near the humptulips hatchery, way above the salmon deadline(ocean beach road).

Post by: TomT on October 15, 2015, 08:24:14 PM: Spinners is the ticket at Roosevelt and Green Lantern. The run has been pretty slim there this year so far, but it is worth trying. I personally like to fish the last 3 hours of outgoing tide.

Post by: SuperFull on October 18, 2015, 02:09:05 PM: Went out yesterday morning to the dyke road on the hump. Didn't touch a fish and didn't see any caught around me either. Fish started jumping and rolling through in waves a couple hours after daylight until about 10:30 when I headed back to ocean shores. Frustruating to see such nice fish jumping around and not even touch one when I threw everything in the book at them. Oh well, was nice to get out for a couple of hours in relative solitude after I did a bit of hiking.
