Title: Trail cam for night use only
Post by: wiiawiwb on October 18, 2015, 05:23:29 AM
Trying to decide on a trail cam (TC) and my usage will likely be much different than most people.   I've backpacked to a remote area and, on several occasions, have had very odd noises and interruptions at night at this location. I'm trying to get to the bottom of what the devil is going on. I will not be leaving the trail cam for lengthy stays. It will be at my tent site when I'm there at night and maybe by day (not a requirement)  if I leave to hike, but I'll return at night.

I have mixed thoughts about which mode of camera to get. On one hand, the best night time quality is most important because that's when the noises and interruptions are occurring.  So I thought of a white light or LED trail cam. However, isn't the reset for a second picture slow with a white light TC? On the other hand, an IR, would likely have a burst mode and be more apt to catch something if the first picture misses.

I could forego the daytime pictures altogether as whatever is messing with me is at night.  So...given the importance of night time pictures, what trail cams would you suggest?

I don't have a suggestion for you, but want to follow along and see the photos of bigfoot when you finally post them.  :)

Well let's hope that if that IS what's messing with me it's a smallfoot!

In any event,  I'm waffling about which way to go here with the TC selection.

I would probably choose a IR camera that is known for good video quality. That's the mode I would use if you're wanting to catch critters in your camp at night. I have good luck with my older Wildgame Innovations camera for video. It was only $50 on sale.

Bushnel X8  or truth cam 57 both take great night shots. The truth57 is probably the fastests reset time I've ever seen !

Bushnell aggressor.  Very good night time shots.  Massive illumination for a red flash.  Can find em for 135 on ebay
