So, I tag my deer.
We hunt wheat/sage country with tone of coyotes.
Can I still coyote hunt?
Some guys told me it was illegal.
I know some of you are WAC and RCW experts....... What's the law?
(And we don't party hunt..... I would legitimately coyote hunt if it was legal.)
Thanks,
DAn

That's weird.... They're not the same species... You will be fun...but consult the regs
-
Of course you can. Only your deer tag is filled but you can still kill song dogs
-
If its deer or elk season and you dont have a deer, elk, bear, coug tag, then you cant hunt yotes with a big game legal caliber. Leave the .243 at home, use something <6mm
-
yeah that. something under .240 cal.
-
You just need to carry the hunting license that you purchased prior to the deer transport tag.
I'm unaware of any caliber restrictions for hunting coyotes during modern deer season.
Only restrictions I know of are:
1) cannot use artificial light during modern deer/elk seasons 2) cannot use dogs to hunt coyote
-
Heck yea, gut pile hunting! .204 always goes with deer hunting. Not sure of the cal. Restrictions, but to avoid a whizzing match with fish n wolves probably bring a varmint rifle.

It says in the regs, if hunting yotes during modern deer or elk season, you have to have a valid deer elk bear coug moose bighorn or goat tag to use a 6mm or bigger. Its in there.

Also # 11 on page 80. No .24 or larger during deer or elk,or slugs and Buck shot.

Good catch! So if a person has a deer tag (now filled) and no other tags for any other large game then they must use a caliber less than .24 in diameter. I always have a bear or cougar tag in my pocket so this has never affected me.
-
Soooo
You can hunt Yotes with a 223 during legal hours only ,no night hunting during the three months mentioned above if open to modern deer or elk.
-
Wow. I've run afoul of that a few times. Now I know
This state blows :yike: :twocents:
-
Thanks all.
Guess I'll bring an AR for just such occasions.
-
Good to know. Wasn't aware of that law.

We are all guilty until proven innocent, as per usual with WDFW, unless you actually poach or trespass, then you're fine..... :bash:

What a stupid a** rule.

Dan-o,
Did you guys see many song dogs over there this year ? We saw a few but not like past seasons.

Sportsmans Code Handbook
Page 276, Paragraph 3 states,
Man who fill deer tag early should head home to make sure neighbors shoes aren't under bed.
-
These pre-emptive laws need to go...they don't help catch poachers and they unnecessarily restrict lawful hunters.

Agreed.

I am thinking you still need to be wearing orange, if it's during modern deer or elk.

Yes.
-
So, how is the coyote hunting while wearing orange? I hunt coyotes and blacktails but haven't seen/shot coyotes while wearing orange. Some things I read say it's a waste of time to hunt coyotes wearing orange, that they will bust you everytime. Heck, they bust me sometimes when I am in full camo!

We saw about as many as ever. G.S. saw a ton of them. He was tagged out and wanting to send some dogs down.....

I am not any sort of coyote hunter, but I've had two separate yotes walk within 50 yards while I was in full orange, imitating a blaze stump. Lincoln unit. Easy pickins if I was interested in shooting a dog. I don't know what they would have done if I had been calling, etc., but the orange didn't seem to draw their attention.

We see yotes while deer hunting in orange.......And some we can shoot.
I'm sure you'd be better off in camo, but I'd hutn them in orange if I was tagged out.
And yes, I'd wear orange while out there, even if I was just along for a walk....... I just don't trust some overeager folks.
