Completely forgot about the lube for the past few years!  :bash:

I think it said to do that in the directions  :sry:

I do it before and after, and if I take it apart and clean in between.  Metal on metal is always better with lube.

Thanks  guy's,  it does mention  it in the directions,  so it doesn't  leave  any noticeable taste or anything  on the next use?

I haven't used any lube on the Cabelas grinder I've had for about 5 years. I'm thinking all the pork fat I add acts as a lubricant?

I got my silicone spray at Cabelas.  The directions said to use spray so I always do.  Don't know if it really is necessary but....... ???

That's my thoughts.  We've used our Cabelas grinder twice now and i figured the meat/fat just lubes it.  Guess i coulda read the instruction manual but what's the fun in that.  It spins, grinds meat, how hard could it be really.  haha

Well my truck only needs 6.45 quarts of oil so now I finally have a use for that other 0.05 quarts  :IBCOOL:

Yes after each use . I prefer Fluid Films food grade spray . My gramps used to use vegetable oil , I  wouldnt recomend using it as over time it builds up and leaves a residue that is kinda sticky and very hard to get off  :twocents:

The sole purpose of a lubricant is to prevent the knife blade from getting hot and scoring the edge before the meat reaches it. Theses new grinders go so fast that they can score the blade in 3 seconds. I have a big industrial grinder with 10 hp 3 phase motor that grinds 120 lbs a minute. I wipe vegetable oil on the disc before use.  Of course it gets cleaned immediately after used every day and all oils and grease is removed with soapy water.  I'd be reluctant to use a silicone myself. Veg. Oil is edible and safe and cheap.

I have the Cabelas 1 HP grinder.  I didn't use any lube for the first two years, then I bought a can of the food grade silicone on a whim.  I thoroughly wash the grinder after use, as I am sure everyone does, let it dry, then spray all of the metal pieces down before assembling it.  I don't know if it does anything, but there is no rust, or any signs of wear on any of my parts after 5 or 6 years of 3 or 4 times a year of use.  I know thats not much use, but for a couple bucks for a can of spray to protect my half a grand grinder, I will keep using it.
