Title: Late season hunt?
Post by: Tbob on November 08, 2015, 11:37:23 AM
Anyone else heading out for the archery late season? My brother and I will finally be getting out the Friday after thanksgiving for the following week. I can't wait! We'll be heading out towards SW Wa. We had to cancel our early season hunt so this will be our first time out. I've got a deer tag too..
Any tips and tactics you'd like to share for late season hunting I'm all ears!

Tagging on this one. I will be heading into 328 for the Late Hunt. Never been in there later than Halloween so my plan is as follows:

1) Walk around in snow
2)find fresh track
3)follow fresh track
4) arrow true spike/cow
5) follow my boot tracks in snow back to camp with elk on back.

seems legit at this point....

Yep, that sounds like a solid plan. A lot like mine so far.. Walk around in pouring down rain/sleet/wind... Look for tracks, follow them through whatever thick pokey stuff they decided to walk by and booyahkah.. It'll get more detailed as I go, but for now just planning on walking around in some lovely PNW fall weather with bow in hand...

Boy, both of you guys have it nailed.  Very easy to understand hunting strategies.  No need to make it complicated!

Have some turkey, go hunting.  A great way to spend the holiday.

After spending the last few days in 672 I will say dress WARM as you plan to walk around all day looking for sign. We got obliterated. Oh yeah, bring dry firewood ;)

Ah yes, warm and dry. I actually just bought a second set of rain gear so while one gets wet and needs to dry I can wear the other. Rotate and dry, rotate and dry.. Man last year we got soaked everyday ! Can't wait! Still trying for my first archery elk..
