Title: Taxidermy Poses (deer family)
Post by: huntnphool on January 20, 2009, 04:45:24 PM
I thought it would be cool to post pics of different poses for mounts. I will get some good close ups of some of mine on here but wanted to get this pose up for Charlie and Michelle since its been a topic lately. The mounts I have seen of this pose dont look real IMHO, I will post more pics of live animals so you taxis can do your mounts and maybe make them look more realistic than your competitors. :twocents:

Notice how high the nose is and how crunched the back of the neck is, most mounts dont look like this. Also notice the eyes, they are not wide open. Almost like Rattatoui smelling his soup, sniiiiiiiiiiiiiifffffff, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I think you just want to keep posting this deer to rub it in my face! For the rest that don't know the story it's another buck M_ray passed while in Montana this year!!! :dunno: What's wrong with me! He is a very cool looking three for sure ... but if I see him next year he might not get the same stay of execution!  :chuckle:

Same thing with elk, his eyes are not closed but they are not wide open either. Also note how the head on elk tilt to one side when they do this.

Looking through many photos as I have for referance the eyes will be a wide open too, depends on what they are doing. I have a picture of a blacktail that has his eyes open so far they show the whites of his eyes while he is flehmin. Great pics Rob. Here is a picture of the first pedestal I ever did and my third deer mount .

I've got lots of deer and elk photos.  If there's any pose in particular you'd like a shot of, just let me know, I might have one.  Good reference is the first step to great taxidermy.

I doubt a client would like this pose but sometimes a buck will take the "nose up" posture to the extreme.
