Title: Looking for a Tent that takes a stove

Sorry for yet another tent thread, but I am not seeing the info I want when searching...

I am considering a multi-day float trip and want a tent that will work in cold weather and will take a wood burning stove.

I looked at the Kifaru tents, and I am not ready to go floorless (I have a floorless tent and I am aware of the pros and cons-for this trip I want a floor).

Would like to keep the weight of the tent under 30 pounds-not including the stove. Price is not too much of an issue, I have time to budget for it. will be for 2-3 people plus gear and stove, so 10x10 seems about right.

This one looks perfect, but is not built for stove use.

Post by: follow maggie on November 15, 2015, 09:37:29 PM: I have a wall tent from Davis tent that I really like. Good quality at a reasonable price. You can order it with or without a floor. Thy have a couple other styles of tent they make, also.

I worry about modifying a tent not designed for a stove as I wonder how flame retardant the fabric would be.

F.M, what size Davis tent did you get, and is it in the 30 Pound range?

Post by: follow maggie on November 16, 2015, 12:15:40 PM: Mine is a 12' x 14', pretty big. I don't know what it weighs and they don't list weights on their website, at least that I can find. The smallest size they list is 8' x 10'. They'll do smaller, but cost probably goes up. Would probably have to send them a message asking about weight. If you're not in a hurry, they're always at the sportsman's show in January

Post by: 7mmfan on November 16, 2015, 12:33:07 PM: The canvas wall tent will definitely weigh more than 30 pounds, probably closer to 45-50 in that size range. Our 15x18 Davis Tent that is floorless weighs upwards of 65#.

:yeah: Yup cannot be beat, we used them on several November Kodiak Island hunts and a few Yukon River Moose hunts in Alaska when temps dipped well below freezing. The Kodiak trips threw multiple days of 50mph winds all night and the tent never failed. The inner liner is poly pro, so fire up that stove a little and all your gear will be dry in the morning, assuming you rig a paracord hanger on the inside which is easy to do! When weight wasn't an issue we took duraflame fire logs and too much of them would make you running for the outside for some colder air. If you have any questions ask away, I have spent many nights in these tents.

You will not find a better tent with a stove..period

Half the time when the temperature was around 40 we didn't even or could use the stove. We hung a coleman lantern from the middle of the tent and that kept us perfectly warm in the tent due to how well they are made. Sorry I sound like a used car salesman, but if money is no issue for tents, these are great. We also picked up two of their cots and we're able to store most gear under the cot giving us a lot of room in the tent at night.

8) :tup: :IBCOOL: Great tents haha, we bought both of ours before they started their "Shockey" advertising. To me it seems to cheapen their site but I guess it is a good way to promote your product.

This is the old forum I used to frequent when I lived in Alaska a few years ago. Tons of info on the Arctic Ovens on the forums.
