Title: Late Whitetail/Mule archery
Post by: mendozer on November 19, 2015, 02:27:07 PM
After two unsuccessful west side hunts I NEED to get a deer in the freezer. Any tips on East side late season? I was thinking Okanagon GMU 204. Any information on areas to avoid or generally productive areas would be helpful. I'm still waiting to bag my first deer!

Lots of big bucks have been killed up in the burn areas of Conconully. You may want to try up there and walk the fire lines and snow mobile trails in the National Forest.

that's kind of where I was going to try, area 224 not 204 my bad. Pearryguin area. So the border of burnt and unburnt huh? I don't really like the idea of hunting as I drive, but I understand many Okanagan hunters bring meat home this way.

224 is closed, I recommend reading the regs.

Yea go ahead and late archery hunt 224, just let me know your license plate and when you shoot a doe! 10 pts here i come.  :IBCOOL:
But in all seriousness, you shouldn't go hunt an animal that you haven't read the regulations for... Read those regs and good luck!

I haven't checked the details for late just yet, but of course I'm going to before I head out. I had planned to scout that area for regular modern or archery I think but my car broke down that trip. I plan to check out that whole area in general (winthrop, twisp, Conconully, etc) regardless whether I hit the spot I originally wanted or not

I'd love to get close to anything. It's my first season on bow, second season in general. I've spooked deer on the road either out of season or as the driver and my partner missed shots. Now it's my turn to shoot and I want some venison jerky!

My point was to suggest at least reading and understanding the regs and seasons. Just because a unit is open, doesn't mean you can harvest a doe or buck there. Each is different. Species most important............whitetail only in 204 and it's not even open yet. ;) Hope you fill your freezer with venison jerky.

I didn't read between the lines with what you were saying, but I did read that 204 is gonna be a whitetail unit for me, and it will be open this weekend when I go... Mulies for this area I'm thinking mainly 215 or 209.

I'm looking for tips. I understand the regs where I'm going. If you're going to be a smart___ then just don't comment.
