I wanted to see when parents had there kids go to hunters Ed so my question is what age u take ur kid to hunters Ed iv been taking my daughter since 9 months and she is now 4 will be 5 in February her and I have gotten a deer since when she was 9 months old so what's a good age to take ur kid thru hunters Ed

It depends on the kid IMO. Both mine past this last year, one was 11 the other 9. Since you are from Centralia I highly recommend taking the coarse in PeEll. The two gentleman teaching that coarse are GREAT with the kids.

There is no age limit in WA.
Each kid is different.
I have had a few 8 year olds go though.
I would say wait till she is 10.
There is a lot of reading and volcab involved.
I never heard of a kid uder 8 passing the class.

My boys were 10 and 13 when they passed hunter education in 2012, there was a 8 year old boy in the class who was super smart and passed the written test but failed the field course. There was 8 other kids in class that were around the age of 10, 4 of the 10 passed the written test while the other 6 failed it.

I took my two oldest boys through together - aged 7 and 10.
I took the 7 year old along "just in case" he passed. And he passed with no issues. (Good reader, good attention span.) I figured I had to take one, if the younger one also passed I would save myself the repeat in a few years.
I still wouldn't let him carry a weapon until he was 11....... It's when I felt confident that he was ready to actually carry.
I had my sons carry their bb guns along for a year or two just to get practice and so I could be sure that they practiced solid muzzle control.

My son passed at 7. Most 7 year olds are too young in my experience as an instructor but a few aren't..

I took my daughters 8 1nd 11 to the one in Winlock, both passed. :tup:

I waited till 12 for the oldest (I call him Firestarter) - until I could trust him with a firearm in his hand. I think the youngest will be nearly that age. No signs of focus yet.

My parents waited until I was 12 because that's what the minimum age used to be in Montana (where my mom is from).

All your choice when kid is ready and wanting to go hunt afield. It is a great experience. My to oldest kids started at 16 and 12. And will be getting my 12 year into class this coming spring

My daughter passed earlier this year at 8, there was another young boy the same age. The instructor called me before the class started just to give me a heads up and know that the class is hard for that age group and there is about a 50/50 cache usually. I had already advised my daughter and she was ok with the idea that if she didn't pass then she knew she wasn't quite ready yet. She isn't the strongest reader but she is as obedient as they come and does what you say when you want, or atleast when I want...not so much her mom :chuckle: but she stayed late every class for extra practice on handling and the questions. Come test time she had them read it to her. She passed both written and field test. I was worried more so on the written since reading test questions on her own to practice could lead to some misinterpreted info. The extra time definitely helped, but the will she had to take the class, spend the extra time practicing and make me proud is what I think did it for her. She even encouraged the other young boy to stay late as well and he passed as well. Everyone cheered for them after they finished their field test since they were the youngest ones and they both had the biggest grins!
