Title: How much snow in Naches area?
Post by: Smokey Bear on December 03, 2015, 08:32:16 AM
I keep checking the Whistling Jack Lodge parking lot camera and see new snow, it's just hard to guess on the depth.  Curious how much snow there is in the Nile/Umtanum area?  My schedule cleared enough for me to head out this weekend, but I am going in a little blind.  Thinking Umtanum or Little Naches hunting down low?  The forecast I saw yesterday showed 18"+ for Naches this weekend, excited!  Thanks in advance!

Has anybody been to the feeding station yet?  If many animals there my trips to Little Naches aren't very productive.

Anywhere from 4-8". Snowing up there this morning, but things should start to warm up and turn over to rain.

Thanks everyone for replying.  This helps out a lot.  I still see the forecast for Saturday and Sunday cooling down and showing a total of 13-20" in Naches.  It was a balmy 57 on the westside today!

What site are you looking at for those totals? I see maybe a Max 10" through Sunday. Way too warm. highs will be above freezing.

I got the forecast from wunderground.com   I use that site at work for historical weather, but anybody can post that correctly.  I just looked now and it still showed 13 to 20" in the town of Naches.  So I also just looked at the National Weather Service and they say maybe snow at night, rain during the day.  It has definitely warmed up so in goes the rain gear.  Headed out right now for the weekend, wish me luck I will need a lot of it.

A county guy was saying we are supposed to get lots of rain in the hills.

Use the noaa site for forecasts. I never ever find weather underground to be accurate.

Snow is very heavy right now under the ice layer.

Just got home from umtanum about an few hours ago was there since the day after Thanksgiving. Never was more than about 4
inches of snow, hard, crunchy, noisy snow. Good numbers of elk being chased all over above the feeding station for the entire week, tongues hanging out and breathing heavy running down the hill and back up the hill all day all week. Only saw 3 elk taken for about 50 hunters. The DNR came and locked most of the gates with only 3 hours of notice with no explanation "BS" lots of po'd hunters. The weather has changed getting warmer and raining soon turning every thing into mud. The only access into the wenas is through the wdfw gate thanks to the DNR. Good luck and expect a crowd and very skiddy elk.
