Title: 2012 F-350 6.7L Lariat wheel and tire questions
Post by: gutsnthegrass on December 11, 2015, 07:43:22 AM: I am in the market for new wheels and tires. My pickup came with factory 20" wheels that i have never been fond of. I am thinking about switching to 18" wheels because the tires are almost $200 cheaper per set of 4. There shouldnt be any issue with changing wheel size, right? I also think this would make for a smoother ride due to more sidewall. I am thinking about going with either a 295/70R18 or 35x12.5R18. I dont have a lift, so everything is stock height. First, what offset would i need on the wheels? I am thinking -12MM, but not sure. Also, would the 12.5" tire rub?

I need to look into that further though. I didn't even think about the TPMS issues. Thanks for the heads up.

1. not an issue if you follow recommended manufacturer offsets for the rim width, don't screw with offset much or you could have this trouble for sure. if you decide to run the super wide tires, then any portion beyond the fender wells becomes a ticket waiting to happen without adding fender flares...
2. tire pressure monitors, tell pressures. should work fine and are able to be transferred with stems to new rims.

concerns to me are associated with computer and OD of tires toward all truck functions, ie MPH, shift points of engine functions ect. your computer is measuring all these constantly and if they disagree from internal map you will have troubles (at least how it has been explained to me in past). there are ways to reprogram your vehicle so it knows the tire size that I would look into if you run a different size from original.
oh if you have chains, remember they prob wont fit anymore also keep spare/rim in mind of same OD....

Sensors might have to be re-trained but that's it. Both wheels use valve stem type sensors. Not the 1 time use bands. Brake clearance should be a-ok.
Tire size should be the only potential issue. If the new tire size is a factory-available size, then a Ford dealer should be able to program in the new tire size. If not, the only way to do it so the speedo, etc works ok is to buy an aftermarket programmer with that function.

Post by: Special T on December 16, 2015, 12:50:29 PM: I wouldnt go to an 18" wheel id go with 16or17" alot more offerings and even cheeper than 18". One great way to find out the best rim size to run is to look at your full sized spare. Lots of trucks that come with 18-20" wheels come with a 16-17"steel wheel spare. Because they are cheeper those wheel sizes.
