We have hunted the San Juan National forest.
Lot of elk, even more free range cattle, average elevation 10000 feet.
Beautiful country

White River National Forest areas 12/24.  Look for a little town called Buford, CO (East of Buford).  East on HWY 8 to Dead Horse creek.  North to the top on Dead Horse Creek Rd(around 10,000 ft)..  Hunt between Sand and Snell peak.  How's that for accuracy?  Don't forget to stop at Sleepy Cat ranch for one of the best steaks you'll eat.

GMU 12 non-resident will take 2 to 4 points to draw.

May want to look at GMU 82, 86 and 511. All OTC.  82 is some beautiful country. Find Cotton Creek trail, Cherry Creek and Major Creek trails.  Good number of animals, fresh water and not a lot of pressure. Would help to have horse to pack in as it is a hike back and steep.
