I found Unclassified species in Washington state, but I'm confused with these two species.
"Callospermophilus" is Unclassified specie that can be hunted and trapped
"golden - mantled ground squirrels" protected and cannot be hunted or trapped.
google gives me the same image of the two species
can some one give me an idea?

Fist pic is golden mantel ,2nd is the Washington ground squirrel. Both protected. 3rd pic are the columbian ground squirrels (whistle rats we call them)I hunt around my area. The columbians look similar the Washington but they are more rusty and not creame colored accents. Hope this helps

There are differences in color patterns. If all those ground squirrels look the SE than I can't help you lol. Best bet is to look up distribution maps for each sp. good luck on your search
