She checked out several semi auto .22 LR. She liked the feel of the Remington 579.
I purchased it for her yesterday for Christmas. It feels like crap in my hands, but whatever.
Anyway, excited to get my daughter her first rifle. Any experience with this model?

Same here. I really wanted her to like the Ruger 10/22, but she didn't.
Kids these days, everything has to be matte black, polymer, and "tactical" LOL!

Maybe tell her the 10/22 has a multitude of custom options (better not use the Barbie description) like legos for adults. MANY custom options. Not sure that is available for the Rem??

I like starting kids out on bolt actions. It seems a little safer without as much chance of them getting the loaded rifle pointed in the wrong direction after the excitement of a shot. Enjoy!Totally agree.
Our .22 rifle is bolt action and the pistol is a single action revolver.
To the OP - the gun she chose is prolly skinnier than the 10/22 and fits her better. Synthetic is lighter, another plus in her eyes. My thoughts. Whatever makes her happy.

I agree, that is what she started on. She has been shooting for years, but this is her first gun of her own.

Are you talking about the 597? If so I have one myself, not a bad gun. The extractor isn't the best, I'd look at a volquartsen if you have trouble with it. They don't like hollow points much I've snapped the bullets off the case if they catch the bottom flat edge of the feed ramp. They are not as customizable as they once were 10 years ago.
I think I may have had a little dyslexia there, yes the 597.
