Title: Predator hunting
Post by: bman940 on January 12, 2016, 12:25:27 PM
When I lived in Oregon we would go to far Eastern OR where we deer hunted  to coyote hunt. Do many of you go out strictly after coyotes? Down here in TX where I live now, you never know what you are going to come across when you get on the call and now that I have started using night vision optic's it's even more fun. Just want to hear about how many of you are hooked on coyote hunting?

I big game hunt and predator hunt. I was into duck hunting pretty good but coyotes are more rewarding and exciting.

I have four dedicated predator calling rifles, 3 electronic calls, 100 mouth calls, blinds, camo tarps, stools and pads, two bins of camo in different colors, I will drop a deer or elk hunt in a second to hunt coyotes.  I travel to three states every year to call (minimum) BUT I am not an addict, and you better not say I am!!!

I am absolutely hooked!  Nothing beats calling in something to where you are.  I am a high school football coach, so getting out and hunting big game in the fall is difficult for me.  Although I can still make it happen, nothing beats being able to trick coyotes year round!

Thanks guys! It seems lke everyone who I talk to about coyote hunting is crazy into it and the more crazy the more into it they are. I have a few friends who hunt some of the competition's and I must say I am greatwful for the pressure they must take off the deer population. I can't tell you how many times I have sat freezing waiting and waiting only to get that rush when I see fur coming towards me. I've found that night hunting is easier and more fun since I can pick them up a lot further away and they can't see me until it's to late. Nice thing in TX you often get bobcat's and swine while chasing coyote's. Nice to hear form other's who enjoy this as much or more;DJ and Bo! Thanks!

i started hunting coyotes when i was 15 ,then i thought if you can call coyotes what else can you call so as a kid i would use mouse squeaks to call weasel bird calls to call mink and so on we couldn't shoot the mink or weasel because they were considered fur bearers in my state ,and now i am 59 and i hunt mostly cats

Another addict here.  There is not much in the world that can match calling in a coyote to your shoelaces.  I love experimenting with different guns and hunt them with bolt actions, combination, and drillings, a year round season lets that happen. Like Bonfire I hunt in multiple states every year.

I like to hunt ducks also and I think for the same reason, it is a rush to outsmart them and wait to take them until they are committed to your spread.

I LOVE COYOTE HUNTING ! It's my first year doing it and wow it's fun 😁 . I still have yet to kill one but it's fun calling them in. I missed the one that came within 59yrds but I think I was a little jacked up. Once this rain lets up, I'll be back at it.

I agree, it's the calling that sucks you in to the coyote hunting fever. I have waterfowl hunted my whole life along the Columbia and now in TX it's still ducks that I love to hunt but Spring Gobbler's have me looking forward to the end of March like no other season. Huge fun and honestly half the time I just take pics of these beautiful birds.
Always something to hunt in the off season with coyotes!

Count me in as another predator hunting addict. What a great challenge to try to outsmart coyotes. Going to hunt near Forks this Friday.
