Just wondering if anybody knows who the richard craneum is that set an mb 650 in a public park in spokane and caught somebodys lab in it. Been on the spokane news 2 nights in a row. Not good
-
I just read that story on google alerts. Sounds like the dog only got bruised at least.
-
:bash: prob an anti looking to get some publicity for there anti trapping bill :bash:
-
I'm guessing a mb 650 is a trap?

:yeah:

It's definitely not anybody that is a trapper. :twocents:
-
:yeah: strange that somebody with that kind of stupidity (or agenda) would have an MB 650 :dunno:
Seems like they'd be just as well with a Duke, but then again I suppose they wanted the dog to be there when the camera crew showed up :dunno:
-
As much as I think it was a lib with an agenda. Those four coil 650's are no joke to set. not sure if a flower sniffer could do it. Also wounded what the trap was set for?
-
Probably someone who doesn't like dogs in the park and ran out of strychnine and sausages.

Actually could be used as a positive for trappers dog not hurt and trap wasn't even padded maybe we could get padded footholds back other than special permits

I take objection that this -being in the trapping forum- insinuates that a trapper on HW may have set this.
"who is the idiot"
No one on HW trapping forum, this screams anti-trapping advocate or mischievous teen who wasn't taught right from wrong.
-
This defenatly needs to be in off topics. :twocents:
Wonder how long until jackelope, or one of the other gestopo find it? :chuckle:
Just teasing, don't get your keyboard in a wrinkle. ;)
-
I caught a red fox last week in a MB 650, AWESOME trap. Absolutely no foot damage at all.
-
It was a rhetorical question, and I think you mean that you take exception to, not objection to.

I wasn't wrinkled up over it, I just see posts pop up now and then asking "which one of you jackwad's left this trash behind" or "which one of you _____"
Always figured HW members are by and large ethical law abiding sportsmen/women.

I was out elk hunting out of Mossyrock years ago and found a golden lab in one of those. It took me about 15 minutes of coaxing for him to let me into his circle close enough to get the trap off. I have to say that trying to get that trap off his foot with my face inches from his was nerve wracking! I carried him back to my truck and took him to the nearest farmhouse. They weren't the owners but they said they'd take him into the vet they knew to take care of him. I heard they found the owners later.
-
So we have a bunch of feral labs roaming the park?
-
There is no way a trapper that knows how things are with the leaf lickers is going to set a mb650 in a park. My guess is an enviro trying to get the public all worked up about trapping.
-
No tag on the trap?
-
No tag on the trap?
Nope. My guess is they won't find fingerprints on it either.

:yeah:
It's either a bunny hugger whack job trying to make trappers look bad or some dumb teenage kids who found one of dad's traps from back in the day and decided try it out.

KF this does sound more like someone found Dad's or Grandpa's trap in the garage and set it. Being very close to a Elementary School and a bunch of new housing.

Or bought at cabelas in post falls

I could move it but my take on it is this is something that directly effects trappers and really of little consequence to others. Let it stay where those most effected will see it.
I really don't think it was an anti. I mean what is to gain by making foot hold traps look bad in WA. We already cannot use them. I see two scenarios that sound plausible. One is that it was a kid. Found the trap in the garage and decided to set it and catch something. Set it close to home because not old enough to drive.
The other is some homeowner who is having problems with coyotes, raccoons or whatever and wants them gone.
Neither have a clue about the law are not trappers and apparently lack common sense.
I bet who did it lives near by.
I used to own a bunch of 650s. Really an animal friendly trap, maybe hard to set and remove but I never saw any foot damage from them. I caught a small dog once down in OR in one. Not sure the breed but built like a basset hound. 48 hour check and he was fine. Nice little dog and he was a couple miles up in the woods from his house. I wondered how many steps that was with those short little legs. :chuckle: He curled up by my heater when I took him home and did not want to leave. It was snowing. Did not even limp when I set him out though.
Heard another trapper say all dogs are the same breed. !@#%&@! dogs. :chuckle: They are the bane of trappers. The worst is people have to run to the vet with them when usually at worst they would be a little sore and limping for a few days. Vets have an interest in making it sound bad. They sure aren't going to tell someone their dog is fine, No money in that!

So I looked at the story and it had pictures of the trap. It is not a 650. Not really sure of the brand but it is a 4 coiled (probably after market) #3CS.

Elementary school less than 3 blocks.

Street shot of the area.

That makes me think kid more and more.
-
They actually have a video attached to that story that says dog caught in BEAR trap. Morons!!! Did you see the trap was attached to a tree with clothesline, it's a kid who set it.
-
You think an elementary aged kid could set that trap?

It may not have been an Elementary student, but Middle School the area is a huge housing development.
Took less than a minute to find this and with a smart phone they have a instructional video while they are practicing;

My thoughts would be it was just non- educated person that did a major screw up sometimes the simplest answer is the right answer my :twocents: like a few years back at the capital building in Olympia they had mole traps set in the lawns that are illegal and there explanation was the individual was misinformed
