An old buddy has invited you to the Beaver State for your first ever tree stand hunt for wapiti! After a excellent evening campfire planning session the night before, he finally sends you down a ridge trail to one of his primo stand locations to climb (safely of course), lock in, sit, and wait 18' up early the next morning. The stand location is on a nice little hidden bench that has a well used elk trail on it. It's the first day of your late August hunt in OR (your buddy said you can stay at his camp five days or until he gets tired of your cooking). Bull only tag here (archery season) and as you sit in your tree stand, you see this fine gentleman slowly lumbering below you around 11:00 to get a cool drink in the waterhole to your left at 9 o'clock. He is coming from his bedding area at your 3 o'clock (your buddy sure knows how to pick the spots). Shoot or no shot?
If you say "shoot", save the picture to your desktop and open in MS Paint, you'll be able to place a spot, X, or whatever on the critter before you save it back to a jpg and add the marked up pic with your post.

Archery? Or Gun?

Archery, thanks for the eye Timber. I've adjusted the OP.

Wait for quartering away or broadside.

:yeah: Patience. If he's not spooked, chances are you'll have a better shot than the one presented in the pic
-
Wait until he passes by...and cross your fingers he gives you a shot
-
Pass until he walks by or I get a better spot.
-
Pass as it is in the photo.

Man, about the only opportunity there is to drop an anvil on his head! (grin) Pass!

There is no shot but maybe the opportunity to ride him bareback.

I'm all about "bronc riding" this elk. Honestly I can't believe this isn't already happening. Think I could get sponsored by Red Bull?

Now that I would pay to watch full on 6pt running thru pecker poles and dead falls or down a rockslide with a bare backer. from what I've seen Elk do over the years id give you less than 5 seconds to Live

I'm passing until better shot if offered.
