Hate to sound so naive with these questions but, what are the chances that razor clamin' would be open the first weekend of February? I know there is a dig on Long Beach right now but every other beach is closed until further notice. I checked with wdfw razor clam info and it seems to not give out any seasons until the last second. They don't seem to give any heads up for possible openings for the future so a guy could plan a trip in time. Or should I just assume 2016 is closed for all razor clam season and if they open a beach it's just a bonus (especially for people that already live in the area). Can some please enlighten me.

From what I know they do a lot of testing to make sure the clams are ok to consume. It can change from good to bad/bad to good quickly for many different variables so when they test and it looks good they say go.

Look at weekends with a minus tide (like Feb 6-7) and it is fairly likely that there will be a dig. It seems this season there has been a dig (at long beach) nearly every time there is a minus tide. I don't know what the toxin levels are and if that is likely to be a problem.

I would look at any digs as a bonus this year. As far as early Feb. goes, looks like the 6th to the 11th may be open somewhere. Those are all evening/night digs.

Yeah, we are heading to Pacific Beach next weekend Feb. 5-8 in hopes it would open. There are a handful of negative tides that weekend. We're going regardless but it would be nice to dig.

I know I am waiting for Twin Harbors, but last toxin check was still over 30. :yike:
We need some more cold weather on the coast.

Last year there was a lot of last minute closures from all the toxin algae blooms, so just make sure you check the day before and day of as well! I think a couple were canceled very last minute.

A little off the subject but pertaining to the same area. Last year on New Years weekend we went to Pacific Beach to dig. In the mornings we would take walks for something to do and we came across various piles of dead sea birds. It looked like there were about 10 different species and most of them had small zip ties around the base of their wings or legs. There might have been 2 zip ties or one and different colors schemes of zip ties. It appears as though they were studied, marked then dumped or something. Some piles were the size of one wheel barrow load or sometimes 10 wheel barrow sized piles and we ran into no less that 20 piles in the 1 mile that we walked. Does anyone know anything about that?

Yeah, the size of clams that we were pulling were huge! It wasn't crowed like Ocean Shores.

Feb. 5, Friday, 4:28 p.m.; 0.2 feet, Long Beach
Feb. 6, Saturday, 5:11 p.m.; -0.3 feet, Long Beach
Feb. 7, Sunday, 5:52 p.m.; -0.7 feet, Long Beach
Feb. 8, Monday, 6:32 p.m.; -1.0 feet, Long Beach
Feb. 9, Tuesday, 7:12 p.m.; -0.9 feet, Long Beach
Feb. 10, Wednesday, 7:52 p.m.; -0.7 feet, Long Beach

That's really good news about Mocrocks. One of my favorites.
No kidding, I remember pulling clams, with black at the hinge and on edges... and actually had a few with barnacles.....how the heck does that happen?

I just looked at wdfw razor clam toxin level page. It looks like Mocrocks toxin levels were lower than Long Beach, but it's still closed :dunno:
