Title: Gunsmith Recomendations
Post by: westside103147 on January 28, 2016, 09:16:22 PM: I inherited my late uncles gun collection last year, including a gorgeous mid 60's Remington 700 in 280 Remington. His son is now showing some interest in hunting and is like to pass on one of his dad's rifle to him. I'm looking for a gunsmith to do some work including replacing the trigger and mounting a VX-3. I want everything to be perfect, otherwise I would take on the project my self. If you guys have any gunsmiths you would recommend let me know, perferbly in the King-Snohomish county area but I don't mind traveling.

Post by: jackelope on January 28, 2016, 10:53:26 PM: I replaced a trigger in a 700 last night in literally about 15 minutes. I can show you how to do it if you want. I have the punches if you don't. That's about all you need. As far as the scope goes, I think you're best served having the son there so the scope gets mounted in the right location. I assume you could have the smith at West Coast Armory do it if you're not comfortable doing it.

Jackalope thanks for the offer, I might have to take you up on that once I figure out what trigger assembly to order. What manufacturer did you use?

Jewell triggers are pretty good.

Post by: rbros on January 29, 2016, 04:31:02 AM: Triggers are easy as is the scope mounting. A jewel or timney are a virtual drop in. The Jewell is a little easier. Midway used to have a cheap scope kit. Might be rewarding for him to do it together.

Post by: westside103147 on January 31, 2016, 03:59:37 PM: I ordered a Timney 512 2.5# trigger and a DNZ mount today. Also ordered a set of punches, a bench block and a scope leveling kit.

I'll post some pics of the completed project when we get it all done.
