Looking for a gunsmith to install a muzzle brake on a 300 rum I just picked up. I live in Covington/Maple valley area and would travel about an hour to take the gun in. If none local, any that are worth shipping too? Thanks Buglin

I read a lot about benchmark having timeframe issues from being too busy. Anyone know if this is still an issue?
-
Last time I talked to them "about a month ago" they were very backed up.
-
Thanks, CarpsniperG2. Bummer... like the OP, I am looking for some work on a 300rum I just picked up.
-
You still might give them a call. I know I was looking for a barrel and it was going to be a month or better. Maybe they could squeeze in a muzzle brake sooner. Give Chris a call and see what they can do. If not I have a gunsmith that I am using that they sent me to. So if you cant get in with them. Send me a pm and I will get you the other shops details.

I am all set with benchmark. OP, did you find a shop?

Buglin4Bulls,
There is no reason to drive an hour away. One of the best gunsmiths in the area is in Covington. Mike Palazzo (Palazzo Precision) has a shop out of his house near the Covington library. He does an awesome job on muzzle brakes too.
-
Is Palazzo still working? I heard his age was becoming a factor, which is sad if that's true.
-
Jackelope, you may be right about his age. I know last time I used him he was still going strong but was getting up there in age. I hope he is still able to work, he is a master at his craft. Some of the custom rifles I have seem him build are truly amazing...and shooters too!
-
He installed a brake for a friend maybe 2 years ago and did a great job. I talked to him on the phone soon after that and he seemed ok... I think maybe what I heard recently was that he was super slow, which is understandable. Something to keep in mind is his brakes are radial, which may not be ideal if you plan to shoot prone a lot.

I had heard of him many times but also had heard his age was getting up there and wasn't sure if he was in business still. My future father in law has a good friend that does gunsmithing and turned me onto him for my brake. I will post pics when I'm done!
