Title: Wall tent
Post by: deerhunter_98520 on February 12, 2016, 09:34:28 PM: I'm in the market for a wall tent....at least a 12x14 but I'm kinda leaning towards a 12x18 or somewhere in that size...I'm going to have a window in the back and have eave sleaves to make a covered cook shack off the front...is there any dos or donts that I should know about it look for before I buy one...I'm currently looking at a Davis tent

I would get a stove jack on both sides of the tent so when you set up you will not have to worry about it being backwards. We are looking at adding the door screens to keep the bugs out during the archery hunts. We have also thought about adding the cook shack off the front. The heavy duty floor tarps they use are great.

Check out Bravo Tents. They are local and can service you well. They are also at the sportsman show in Portland right now. I thought he was also a site sponsor but could be wrong.

Post by: 7mag. on February 13, 2016, 01:08:10 PM: I bought a Davis Tent 2 years ago. It's 14x16 with 5 foot sidewalls, mildew and fire resistant treated canvas, and frame angle kit. After buying EMT for the frame at Lowe's, I spent $1,050 total. I'm very happy with my tent and would buy from Davis again.

I bought a 10 x 12 because I wanted something I could handle by myself. It's fine for two guys and a stove.

Mine is from Reliable Tent and Tepee. My buddy has one from the Tent shop. I think mine is better built at the eaves with both grommets and sewn plastic loops for the tie down ropes.
Look around before you buy.

I have 1 set of disco cots, I use for just me/ storage on the bottom, or for a third guy if needed. I only expect to have 2 guys 90% of the time. I ordered the angle kit with a fly kit. I had a 10x12 and a 14x16 before that. If you know your gonna have 3 guys all the time, get the 14x16 show special from davis. Great deal, awesome tent and service. I've never had the fire teatment, I never have really ever tarped it, I like it to breath. Consider a back window and the storm door. I had a screen in my last tent. Did'nt use it much.

Post by: Rainier10 on February 14, 2016, 11:06:54 AM: Whatever size you think will work go a couple feet bigger. We ended up going 15x15 with stove pipe holes on opposite corners to ease setup. We also have a 9x15 extension that we use as the vestibule/cooking area. It has a door on it as well and if we need extra room when entertaining we can open the whole thing up and have a 15x24 tent.

Post by: Jason on February 16, 2016, 09:04:11 PM: Defeats the purpose with the cable tensioners being connected to the center rafter, I'm sure it's to strengthen for snow load, but the cross cable is to long when connected in the center and will allow the side walls to push out as center of the rafter is pushed down from weight.

Two negatives about the windows. 1- I don't like the Velcro and 2- the window Velcro on the out side :yike:
And the Velcro corners, the corner zippers were needed on the old Army GP tents with 12 individual poles for ease of setup, but you don't need the Velcro corners on a wall tent.

I would second the opinion on stove jacks at either end also I would put another door also at both ends. Its real nice to screen it and open the doors in the afternoon to let a breeze through the tent. I have a 12x 18 set up this way.

I would second the door on both ends. I have two tents, both 12x16 and one has a door on both ends. If I set up both, I use the one with two doors as the cooking/hanging out area and the other one as sleeping quarters. The extra space is nice at times. Doors at both ends help with ventilation during early archery.

The clear tarp doesn't make it feel like a green army tent during the day, works a lot better for me than a blue tarp.
