Went for a short hike up in Oklahoma gulch this weekend and saw what looked like to me a lot of winter killed deer. Seems like most of the draws and along the deer fence had dead deer. Might be slim pickings up there this Fall.... Also saw cougar tracks and one doe with what looked like a fresh bite taken out of her.

That's scary! Hasn't even been a bad winter.
WA needs to bring back hound hunting for cougar!!

Lots of deer getting hit by vehicles here. Some of them are able to limp off and die further from the road, could explain some of what you saw.
Amazes me that people do not slow down in that area :bash: :bash:
A couple nights ago, one was hit IN the tunnel. Its a straight shot and well lit......how does a driver not see a deer in a tunnel :dunno:

I was almost rear ended by a gal riding my a**. I got stopped for the 5 or 6 deer crossing the hwy in plenty of time just to see this lady almost hit me. Slow down, too many deer near the hwy this time of year.

Definitely a tough winter in parts of Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan counties. Last week I saw 9 bald eagles on a deer carcass, and two bald eagles standing 10 feet away from an emaciated, moribund yearling buck - just waiting for him to tip over. Common for fawns and oldies to die every winter, but sure looks like some elevated losses. Sunday's wind storm helped open up a lot of green slopes near Wenatchee, hope that was the case further north too.

Warmer temps and winds have definately helped the last few days. I just hope it's not too late.

My 11 year old son and I went for a short hike Sunday and was shocked at the amount of dead deer fawns we found, 10 plus. Along the fence, in draws, and even on top of a finger ridge. Several weeks ago my wife and I were woken up by a deer bleating. There were about 10 deer in our yard. A fawn was continually bleating as she stood in the hard crusted snow appearing to be starving to death. Most yard plants that are left alone year after year have been eaten. I've heard this from folks all up and down the valley. Entiat deer fawns, and most all our deer here, are having a horrible time and the warmer weather is to late in my opinion as the damage is done as many are gravely weak.
