Title: Moving a Gun Safe
Post by: salish on February 23, 2016, 12:15:26 PM: Hi,

Does anyone know who I could contact in order to move a large gun safe? I have a large one that's been sitting in my garage for over 20 years. I'd like to have it moved into my basement but it's just too big and heavy for me and a buddy to handle, plus I have a bad back and I wouldn't be able to offer much help. Who do you call for things like this? Piano movers? I'm in Seattle, too, so there's always the anti-gun sentiment.

Post by: Curly on February 23, 2016, 12:25:33 PM: You might try contacting Sportco in Fife. They had a guy that does most of their gun safe deliveries. He is really good and has a special dolly made for moving them.

Post by: Come Get Some on February 23, 2016, 08:33:11 PM: I have 4 gun safes, 1 Is a Cannon 50. 1600lbs empty. I have moved it several times with the help of 2 of my teenage sons. We use a refrigerator dolly to raise 1 end and place closet poles under it and roll it along. Very easy . If you wish send me a pm and I will give you my number so we can discuss it over the phone. It is alot easier than you may think.

Who ever is the cheapest is the one I'd go with, it isn't rocket science, just heavy work.

Post by: Mongo Hunter on March 09, 2016, 10:12:35 AM: I used the safe company that Cabela's recommended. I think it was NW Safes. did a great job. bit spendy but after I saw the safe in place in my garage I realized there was no way I would have done that myself.

A few years ago I used some perfectly capable and strong guys that said they have moved safes. I thought ok. They brought a heavy duty hand truck, strapped it all in. The safe was around 1500 lbs. As we moved it through the door. Solid core door. The air filled tire blew out from the weight. The safe tipped. Broke the straps and literally broke the door almost in half, takeing out the door frame, and half the wall. So having a company that does it for a living. I believe they would know that you probably needed solid tires, rather than air filled ones. And if something went wrong, they would cover you with their insurance.
