Fake ancient halibut hook or replica?

Bought this probably 25 years ago at an estate sale.  Part of it is wrapped in leather which is deteriorating.

I'd say that's what it appears to be. Cool item for sure.

I can't speak to it's authenticity, but it looks pretty old. There are a lot of reproduced artifacts, but who knows? Might be worth getting it checked out. But I did see videos for making replicas on Youtube, so...

Used for fishing by NA.  Considered a hook.

Hard to tell if a fake or replica. A museum should be able to give you an idea.  Did you know the 'V' piece was designed to keep really big halibut from being able to get hooked?
