Title: Shore fishing Dominican Republic, Punta Cana
Post by: 7mmfan on March 03, 2016, 01:26:45 PM
So its official, my wife and I are heading down towards the end of May. This to be our last big vacation for the two of us before we start trying to start a family. While I plan on taking full advantage of the sun, the all inclusive resort, and time with my wife, I would not be able to live with myself if I didn't fish some!

I have no want or urge to go offshore and fish for billfish or durado, but am way more interested in surf fishing. I've watched all the youtube videos I can find on guys fishing right in front of resorts with various bait setups, plugs/jigs and some guys do very well. It seems if you can rent a kayak and get to some different areas you can really get into some good fishing for small tarpon and jacks.

I'm curious if anyone has been here, fished, and has any advice? I would even hire a guide for a day if I knew they would offer the kind of fishing I'm looking for.

Haven't been to where your going but we took a cruise in the Southern Caribian for our honey moon. I packed one of my steelhead spinning rods with a small assortment of tackle and fished about everywhere I could toss a line in. Caught some small exotic looking fish nothing to big. Should be able to find a local with a skiff to motor you around to some fishing spots for a few dollars. Good luck!

I found a couple forums last night that are mainly British guys that spend months down there every year. There was some good info there. It seems if a guy can get his hands on a kayak and fish some of the rocky flats inside the breakers with topwater plugs it can be epic. Jigs along the bottom produce lots of smaller fish. I guess right at dark permit come in along the shoreline, so some small shrimp/crab flies or jigs get it done.

Reminds me of a stop at St. Johns. A local seen me walking around with my rod and with broken English wound take me out fishing for some US dollars. I was all ready to go but wife said no and hell no.  I'm like why not? Well she gave me every bad thing that could happen .  If she wasn't there I would have went..... Should be a fun trip for you guys.
