I'm considering a climbing tree stand. I've never been in one and just started looking. I'm interested in ones that can handle large diameter trees and handle at least 300 lbs. I weigh 245...would like it to be safe and comfortable. What should I be looking at?
I saw a Bone Collector brotherhood marked down to 169 online, that's over $100 off supposedly...
Anyhow any feedback would be great.

I just picked up a used Summit Viper. It is my 1st stand, and I have not climbed with it yet, but what I am seeing online and hearing here it is a good stand. You might want to check the Summit/API brand out as well.

I can also recommend the Summit Viper SD. Great stand and easy to modify to fit your needs.

You are welcome to come take a look at mine to see what a Summit (at least older ones) looks like. Based on pictures frmo website it does not look like they changed too to much on them over the years. Little refinments and extra features, but core looks pretty consistent.
Also check out the thread I started 2 days ago, last post I made has a link to youtube where a guy goes over the summit and how to use it. Good information on safety regardless of what you choose..

I have an ol man climber. works well. Don't know what it is rated for but I can tell you without reservation that 300lbs is no problem. I push all of that and more loaded with gear.

You should check out the Lone Wolf, they ROCK. Fold extremely flat, very light weight and handle 350 hunters. Love mine.

I have tried several and own a couple different kinds. By far my best stand is the summit viper. I bought it used on CL. Quiet easy to use and adjust on the tree. If you want a climber and can find a used one for $175 or less buy it!
I also have a API bow hunter that I lef with my buddy in the south. I bought it new because of the price and my need for one. It was ok. harder to adjust in the tree not as quiet and harder to transport.

Yeah I lucked out and got my Summit Viper for $125 "used" it has never climbed a tree before. Looking forward to using it this fall!

I picked up a Summit Viper a few years ago and I cant say anything bad about it. It was my first climber, so dont have any experience with any others. Its very comfortable(used to sitting in hangers with tiny seats). I had friends say Lone Wolf's are nice, but they were out of my price range.
