I have the cheap Chinese SKS and was wondering if there is anything I could do to it to fancy it up? It has a folding stock and I'm pretty sure it only jams because of the cheap clip. I think the clip feeds the ammo too fast, otherwise the gun works great. Any thoughts?

Need more info! :)
SKS's are known to be robust and reliable in the factory configuration.
Does it have the factory fixed 10 round magazine? Or an aftermarket larger magazine?
A pic would help too, there were different models imported with different features.

sorry, I can take a pic when I get home, it does have the factory 10 clip but I have it out and was using the after market 30.

Something that nearly every gun could stand is polishing the feed ramp. Ive done it to a few with just a pencil/wood dowel and fine grit sand paper. How fine depemds on the machining marks. One gun had so deep grouves on it I started with 90grit just to even everything up! When I was done I was using 1200. Everything is as smooth as silk at that point.

Dollars to donuts if you take out the aftermarket magazine and put back in the factory 10 rounder I bet your feeding problems go away.

:yeah:
This seems to the be source of many SKS problems and why an AK is more sought after. They arnt bad guns if you got them cheap.

These fellas have done some amazing work with the SKS...

cheap is correct!! Bought this about 20+ years ago for just 89.00 brand new from a gun store in Spokane, should have bought 10 of them!

I did a quick you tube search and visited the suggested forum. It appears that some sand and polish goes a long way that is pretty easy to do and the only real part to purchase is the spring loaded firing pin whish is cheep. A few hours time and you can turn that cheep sks into a reasonable self defence shooter. To me $200 or less it would be a great deal. If not might as well buck up and build an AR or AK

Tie some rope to it and use it as a boat anchor. You can shine a turd but all you end up with is a shinny turd. :)

Lol on the turd comment . I have a real AR in my sights, have a ton of overtime coming at work soon!

I love SKS's I own a few AK's and 9 AR platform firearms. I would rather shoot the SKS any day of the week. They are far from being superior to other firearms but they are fun and very reliable in stock configuration. I really have to question someone who would choose to use one as a boat anchor. You could narrow down needed/useful firearms down to 3-4 pieces but that would be boring. Old tech is fun to mess around with. I am personally kinda getting bored with the AR platform.
